During the August 24 episode of AEW Rampage, the Lucha Brothers announced that AEW All-Atlantic Champion PAC would return so they could compete in the tournament for the AEW World Trios Championship. In the first round, they will face Aussie Open and Will Ospreay. The broadcast team confirmed that the bout would be held on the August 24 episode of AEW Dynamite.
The Death Triangle last competed as a trio on the June 1 taping of AEW Dark: Elevation. Since then, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix have been feuding with RUSH and Andrade El Idolo. Meanwhile, PAC has been defending his title around the world.
Ospreay and Aussie Open competed on AEW programming multiple times ahead of AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. At the pay-per-view, Ospreay defeated Orange Cassidy.
The tournament finals to crown the first AEW World Trios Champions will be held at the All Out pay-per-view on Sunday, September 4.
