Wrestling fans have had a lot to take in the last few weeks with the news swirling around Vince McMahon. While nobody wants to think about someone who has been such a major part of their growing up in such a light, the facts are the facts and have caused the boss to retire from WWE. In doing so, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan have taken control of the company as Co-CEO. Not long after the change was made, it was announced that Stephanie’s husband Paul Levesque (Triple H) would be returning to the company for the first time since his health issues in the role of VP of Talent Relations. Seeing Triple H return to the company was exciting and there was much rejoicing.

However, the rejoicing does not end there. It has only been four days since all of this occurred and it was announced that Triple H would be taking over another position with the company. He will now be head of creative in addition to his other responsibilities. As a wrestling fan, this could be the biggest news of the year, and here is why.
Wrestling fans have always been known to be vocal about the things they like and dislike. They have no problem cheering their favorites and dragging their heels through the mud. They will always tell you how they feel about a storyline whether it is good or bad. One thing that has been talked about greatly over the years is how Vince McMahon seemed to have lost touch with the fan base. The idea that WWE had moved away from the fans that made it so popular to begin with and started to cater more towards children with the “PG Era” has been a point of contention for many fans. Over the years Raw and Smackdown had made a clear shift and as usual, viewers flocked to the internet to voice their opinions on the product and the direction it was taking.
One shining light during all of that was NXT. Not the new NXT, but the old Black and Gold NXT. As most people reading this will know, much of the success NXT saw can be attributed to Triple H as he was in charge of booking that show week in and week out. Triple H was removed from the position after struggling to win the “Wednesday Night Wars” against AEW Dynamite and the product has not been the same since. Black and Gold NXT was widely looked at as the best program that WWE had among those fans that felt left behind in the “PG Era”. Losing ratings to a brand new company that has the wrestling world buzzing should not have been looked at as a failure. It should almost have been expected. In no way does that make NXT a bad product, it just meant that people wanted to see what the new company was going to do because there was some legitimate competition for the throne for the first time in years.
So, what we have learned in the last few days is that WWE is considering dropping the PG rating and moving to TV-14 which should allow for an edgier product. On top of that, they are giving the King of Kings, and the King of NXT the reigns to control creative decisions for all WWE programming. This is sure to bring joy to fans and usher in a new era in WWE and we here at LWOS Pro Wrestling cannot wait to see what the future holds!
