AJPW’s Suwama Launches All Women’s Promotion Evolution

Evolution Girls

All Japan Pro Wrestling legend and backstage worker Suwama has announced that he will be helping to launch a new all women’s promotion called Evolution. The group is not officially affiliated with AJPW but Suwama notes that the two groups will have a healthy relationship and the Evolution talent is aiming to be unveiled at the September 18 Budokan event.

Evolution Launched by Suwama

In November of 2020 it was announced that Suwama was starting a women’s division within All Japan Pro Wrestling called Evolution Girls. The project notably involved Ice Ribbon’s Tsukasa Fujimoto as a trainer and Akane Fujita as a proposed roster member. The project went quiet, seemingly due to trainees quitting the project and most thought the project was dead.

That was until May 18 when Suwama announced his intention to start an all women’s group known as Evolution. At a press conference on May 23 more details about the promotion were revealed. Suwama, alongside Shuji Ishikawa, will serve as the producers of the company.  The trainees are now aiming to debut at the September 18 Budokan event and the currently on-hiatus Tsukasa Fujimoto will be asked to cooperate with the project.

What Evolution brings to the Joshi scene will remain to be seen. If it can get some high profile partnerships or regularly use some of the talented free agents of the scene it could become a refreshing addition to the overall scene, especially if it can get a spot on AJPW TV.
