Cody Rhodes Off Battle of the Belts, Replaced by Dustin Rhodes

Cody Rhodes Battle of the Belts

During AEW Rampage, it was announced that Cody Rhodes will not be able to take part in All Elite Wrestling’s Battle of the Belts special this Saturday. In the time leading up to Rampage, AEW let it be known that they would be making a change due to “medical protocol”. Though no reason was given outside of this, it’s been speculated that it was specifically due to COVID-19. Rhodes missing a show that was actually named after an NWA event is something that the man himself will certainly be disappointed in. Standing in for the champion will be his brother, Dustin Rhodes, who will face Guevara at Battle of the Belts to crown an interim TNT Champion.

Dustin Rhodes to Replace Cody at Battle of the Belts

Cody Rhodes was set to defend his newly-won TNT Championship, a win that makes him a three-time TNT champion, against former champion Sammy Guevara in an instant rematch from their clash on the special Christmas Day edition of AEW Rampage. Due to the aforementioned “medical protocol,” Guevara will battle his original opponent’s older brother, “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes. As mentioned earlier, the winner of this match will be declared the interim TNT Champion. The winner will eventually face Cody, once he’s medically cleared to compete, to crown an undisputed titleholder.
