Jimmy Yang – real name James Yun – has departed from the WWE after a short spell as a backstage producer. Yang, perhaps best known in the WWE for his spell as the “Redneck” Jimmy Wang Yang towards the tale-end of the 2000s era of Friday Night SmackDown, had apparently been on trial in the role but had decided it simply “wasn’t for him”. The news was broken in a report by PWInsider.
Jimmy Yang originally signed with the WWE (then WWF) all the way back in 2001 – after the collapse of WCW, where he had been a member of the roster between January of 2000 and its eventual fall in early 2001. He would eventually depart the company after being sent to its Heartland Wrestling Association development company and then embark on a successful career in All Japan Pro Wrestling and various US based promotions before returning to the WWE in 2003 as one-half of Kyo Dai, as the villainous Akio. He would depart the company again in 2005 and not return until 2006, where he would enjoy his longest and most successful stint as a part of the WWE roster as Jimmy Wang Yang before being released in the early part of 2010. His final return to the company was in October of this year, when he began a try-out role as a backstage producer, before departing the company again this week. Jimmy Yang is a seasoned professional with decades of experience and it is no doubt that whoever is next in line to receive his services will be gaining a valuable asset.
