If you were taking a break from WWE programming to enjoy the holidays with your friends and family, you may have missed that last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw – the go-home show ahead of WWE’s inaugural Day 1 pay per view event – saw the return of former Raw General Manager and former thorn in Vince McMahon‘s side, Eric Bischoff. In a reference to his memorable stint as wedding officiator to Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo all the way back in September of 2002, Bischoff was surprisingly on-hand to officiate the vow renewal of the The Miz and Maryse. Of course, in typical WWE fashion, things ended in unusual circumstances- as Edge, paying tribute to his time as a member of The Brood, unloaded a blood bath on the happy couple. This sets up their match this Saturday at WWE Day 1.
Bischoff’s most recent stint with the company was as Executive Director/booker of SmackDown back in 2019. In addition to this role, his most recent appearance for the company was during his WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony earlier this year. With Bischoff having been a vocal critic of All Elite Wrestling and Tony Khan recently, maybe this is evidence of a renewed role within the company. Only time will tell how long – if at all – Bischoff will be back for.
