Canada’s Got Talent, the Simon Cowell-produced spin-off to his Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent franchise, is returning to the Canadian airwaves for a reboot this year, and for pro wrestling fans, there’s a familiar face in the judge’s row. Canada’s Got Talent initially debuted in the 2011-2012 season, but after one year it was abruptly canceled. It was recently revealed that a reboot was coming back and on Monday, WWE Hall of Famer and 7x WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus shared the news that she is set to join the panel of judges for the new series. The news shows a renewed interest in Canada with its wrestling legends, following on the heels of the announcement earlier this month that another WWE Hall of Famer, Bret “Hitman” Hart, had become the first pro wrestler to earn a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in its 23-year history. Ironically enough, Trish Stratus hosted the 2006 Canada’s Walk of Fame ceremonies.

The first season of Canada’s Got Talent featured Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building, Father of the Bride, SCTV, SNL), Grammy and Academy Award-nominated composer Stephan Moccio (“A New Day Has Come” Celine Dion, “Wrecking Ball” Miley Cyrus) and opera singer Measha Brueggergosman acted as judges. None of the original three will return, instead being replaced by Howie Mandel (America’s Got Talent, Deal or No Deal, Gremlins, Muppet Babies), Canadian hip-hop legend Kardinal Offishall, Canadian YouTube icon Lilly Singh, and Trish Stratus.
From Trish Stratus’ press release on her website on Monday:
The WWE Hall of Famer, who has been in the performance industry for over two decades, will bring her eye to the panel in hopes of finding the best Canada has to offer.
“I’m so excited to be joining this iconic brand and seeing the incredible talent Canada has to offer,” said Trish. “And of course, when I spot it – dropping that elbow on The Golden Buzzer!”
Joining Stratus is AGT anchor and fellow Canadian Howie Mandel, rapper Kardinal Offishall, and long-time YouTube star Lilly Singh. Country songwriter Lindsay Ell rounds out the cast as the host.
Canada’s Got Talent made a brief appearance in 2012 after just one season. Show creator Simon Cowell is excited about the show’s revival.
“We’ve seen so many talented people from Canada over the years, and we always said we’ve got to make this show again,” Cowell told Variety. “I am so excited ‘Canada’s Got Talent’ is returning and believe it will be an amazing experience. I would like to personally thank Citytv for giving the show and all of the contestants this opportunity.”
Cowell has served as a judge on “Britain’s Got Talent” and “America’s Got Talent” for several years, and it is said he will have some on-screen involvement in the Canadian edition as well.
Got Talent is the world’s greatest talent competition, for acts of all ages and sets out to discover the most unique, skilled, heartwarming, and showstopping performers. Dancers, singers, illusionists, comedians, and every imaginable talent in between will compete before celebrity judges, a live studio audience, and the entire nation. At stake is the title of Canada’s Got Talent Champion and a prize beyond their wildest dreams. With compelling stories and mesmerizing performances, this competition is unlike any other.
Canada’s Got Talent airs this spring on Citytv.
