It’s time for the last MLW FUSION ALPHA before Fightland, and in a surprise move, Major League Wrestling has a major title on the line that may have a serious impact on Saturday’s card. Alex Kane will also make his singles debut, and Aramis will square off with Arez. With that out of the way, let’s dive in!

MLW National Openweight Championship: Alex Hammerstone vs. Tom Lawlor
This clash between defending champion Alex Hammerstone and Tom Lawlor has felt like a long time coming. However, with that said, this feels like weird timing for this bout to take place. Since the company’s return from the pandemic, Hammerstone has been at the forefront of a building feud with Contra Unit and their leader, MLW World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu.
The two men have arguably been the most dominant competitors in MLW and their title vs. title match has been built up so well. It would not feel right if Hammerstone lost the belt here. There is one big “filthy” problem, and that is “Filthy” Tom Lawlor. As mentioned earlier, Hammerstone and Fatu are arguably the two most dominant men in MLW; Lawlor is the only other competitor who has a legitimate claim to that spot.
Lawlor claimed the 2020 Opera Cup and the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship last year, building a massive wave of momentum. I, for one, would have thought Lawlor would’ve been waiting in the wings for the victor of Saturday’s match. Now, he’s making me wonder if Hammerstone will walk in with his belt in hand.
If that happens, Hammerstone will still get his earned shot from Battle Riot, but will Lawlor be added so the titles will still be unified? Will Lawlor go into the 2021 Opera Cup with the Openweight Championship if he is victorious and spend his time taunting Hammerstone should he defeat Fatu?
Normally I like to offer a prediction, and normally I would say Alex Hammerstone will emerge victorious. However, both sides have many storyline possibilities, and it does not feel right for either guy to lose. This shows the brilliance of MLW’s booking strategy, and regardless of the outcome, it will impact the match Saturday. Be sure to tune in!
