Preview: DEFY Wrestling Leviathan, Night 1 (8/27/21)

DEFY Wrestling Leviathan

Independent professional wrestling is set to return to historic Washington Hall in Seattle, WA beginning on Friday night, August 27th with DEFY Wrestling presenting night one of Leviathan. It is currently headlined by three matches, with several other stars scheduled to appear. This is DEFY’s first wrestling event since February 2020’s Kings of Crash, before the COVID-19 pandemic ground the wrestling world to a screeching halt.

Full Announced Card for Leviathan:

  • Viva Van vs. Rebel Kel vs. Riea
  • SCHAFF vs. Hammerstone vs. Calvin Tankman
  • DEFY Tag Team Championship Match
Midnight Heat (“Precious” Eddie Pearl and “Rockin” Ricky Gibson) (c) vs. Cody Chhun & Nick Wayne

SCHAFF vs. Hammerstone vs. Calvin Tankman

In what will likely be an earth-shaking weekend, a huge triple threat match will take place. The “Baddest Motherf***er on the Planet”, SCHAFF, will take on MLW National Openweight Champion Hammerstone and GCW star Calvin Tankman. Hammerstone and SCHAFF have been having issues with each other since first facing off at DEFY Slamtown in September of 2019. In singles competition, SCHAFF leads the series, two matches to one. This was also of course before SCHAFF turned his back on the DEFYance. The wild card in this match is Tankman, who is making his DEFY debut at Leviathan. The mid-west wrecker comes in with a reputation for destruction with wins over names like Lee Moriarty, Mance Warner, and Jake Something. Tankman is also no stranger to either opponent, having faced SCHAFF back in May for AAW Pro and being on the MLW roster with Hammerstone. As things look to start heating up once again on the independent scene, this hoss fight at Leviathan will be one to keep an eye on!

DEFY Tag Team Championship Match
Midnight Heat (“Precious” Eddie Pearl & “Rockin” Ricky Gibson) (c) vs. Cody Chhun & Nick Wayne

Also set for night one of Leviathan, the newly christened team of Midnight Heat will defend their titles against “Classic” Cody Chhun and the debuting Nick Wayne. Cody Chhun, who has also appeared on AEW programming as Sotheara Chhun, made the challenge to the team formally known as 4 Minutes of Heat. Seeming to have had championship glory go to their head since winning the titles in January of 2020 and one single successful title defense at Kings of Crash, the new Midnight Heat accepted… only if Chhun could find a partner.

And find a partner he did, in third generation prodigy, Nick Wayne. Wayne is the son of the Pacific Northwest legend Buddy Wayne and grandson of Moondog Ed Moretti. The exciting and explosive athletic style of Wayne combined with Chhun may be something that the cock champions don’t have an answer for. It might not be one and done for the DEFY Tag Team Champions, but at Leviathan, it certainly could be Chhun and done!

Also scheduled to appear on night one of DEFY Wrestling Leviathan are Judas Icarus, Rebel Kel, Rocky Romero, Viva Van, Reia, and IMPACT Wrestling superstar Josh Alexander. If you can’t make it out to the event in person, it will be available on Powerslam.TV and DEFY on Demand. This event is 16 and over and there are COVID-19 protocols in place. If you are attending this event, please give it a look over so you don’t miss out!
