It was announced earlier in the day that Ember Moon was not cleared to compete on NXT, resulting in Dakota Kai stepping in to take on Sarray. It’s been a challenge for the newcomer, as her challenge to Toni Storm went unanswered after Storm was called up to SmackDown. This was Sarray’s chance to prove herself and everything she did showed why she belongs and will be a champion someday. Her unique offense mixed with her new attire and overall vibe into the match made her a fan-favorite facing off with Kai. These two were able to put together some magic in their first-ever match facing off. At one point, Sarray locked in this impressed Single Leg Boston Crab, cranking back with her head touching the back of Kai.

However, it was the running dropkick by Sarray to Kai on the bottom rope that will be having people talking, as Kai’s head snapped like a rubber band. Somehow the number one contender managed to survive it. Kai would win the match with a running kick into the corner, showing that the leader of “Team Kick” was on her game heading into NXT TakeOver: 36. Despite this being the first loss of Sarray’s WWE career, she looked like an absolute star as she brought her jaw-dropping to the table. In time, she will be on the level that sees her as champion. One of the best TV openers of the year as these two had instant chemistry and all we can hope is that they do it again down the line.
