When Johnny Gargano made it known that he wanted an NXT Championship match by picking a fight with Karrion Kross, no one believed that Gargano would have what it takes to defeat the undefeated Kross. However, when Samoa Joe was announced as the special guest referee, an opportunity presented itself that maybe Kross and Joe’s tension would allow Gargano to capture a win.

Getting down to the match itself, it was a lot of domination by the champion. It was only when Joe stepped in as Kross was bending the rules that allowed Gargano to get the upper hand. The crowd was chanting loud for Gargano and at times it looked like he very well could win. “Johnny Wrestling” would hit the One Final Beat DDT on Kross for the best near fall of the entire match. Once this happened, Gargano was done for.

Kross would hit multiple Powerbombs on Gargano before hitting him with the elbow to the back of his head, knocking him out cold and ending the match once and for all. While the aftermath which saw Kross choke out Samoa Joe will be the talk of the town, this was a match that highlighted why Gargano remains one of the best when it comes to being an underdog.
