All Elite Wrestling Desperately Needs an AEW Trios Championship

Death Triangle AEW Trios Championship

Nearly every male wrestler in All Elite Wrestling is part of a faction or a stale. This provides the company with opportunities to have stables with multiple storylines at the same time. However, with so many men in the company in factions, there is a desperate need for an AEW Trios Championship.

There are currently 13 different stables in AEW with at least three men in them. Groups like Best Friends and Gunn Club have only three, but that would be enough to form a trios team. Ryan Nemeth’s Wingmen group and others feature four men, which means that these groups could place four different teams into the division. This, however, is where the division gets very interesting.

The Inner Circle and The Pinnacle have five members, which produces ten distinct sets of three. For groups like the Hardy Family Organization, if they include TH2, and Dark Order, many different sets of three can be produced from their ranks. With all of these three-man possibilities, a trios or 6-man championship seems like a no-brainer for the company.

At times, when companies introduce new championship divisions, there are truly not enough contenders to make the division interesting. World Wrestling Entertainment created the Women’s Tag Team Championship, and though the company had several regular women’s tag teams on their combined rosters, only one of the original teams (The IIconics) actually carried the belts. The six other championship teams were thrown together, using women were not doing anything else.

In AEW, the trios division would not have this problem. Unlike WWE and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, AEW does not have a large number of titles. This means that there are few opportunities for the wrestlers to capture gold. This, however, is not a bad thing. This makes the titles and the championships special because they are the only ones in the whole company. The AEW Trios Championship would be no different. With so many possible combinations, there would always be enough worthy contenders.

The AEW Trios Championship is something that needs to happen. A trios tag team championship would be a welcome addition to All Elite Wrestling. Faction warfare would increase as teams fight for the gold and the fans would be the real winners.
