AEW Dark In-Depth Match Analysis
Matt Sydal (w/ Mike Sydal) vs. Dante Martin
In our main event of the evening, we have Matt Sydal (accompanied by brother Mike) wrestling Dante Martin (of Top Flight fame). There was not much of a build to this match, but in the context of AEW Dark, this match had an incredible amount of heat going into it. Earlier in the night, we heard from Dante Martin who claimed that he looked up to Matt Sydal when he first began watching wrestling. While Matt Sydal may be a “top talent”, he is not “Top Flight.” That was a solid promo from Martin heading into the match to give it some added juice.
Sydal and Martin started off with some chain wrestling (not something I expected to see in a match with two wrestlers typically keen on aerial assault). Sydal was constantly overpowering the 20-year-old professional wrestler. Matt’s strategy was clear in this match – hit an impactful maneuver and then tie up the Top Flight wrestler to keep him on the mat. He employed this strategy wonderfully throughout the course of this contest. Dante Martin would eventually manage a comeback, but it would be halted when both men would attempt running crossbody’s off the ropes (that turned into disgusting-looking headbutts).
To finish the match, Matt Sydal would drop Dante Martin with a leg hook fireman’s carry slam for the pinfall victory to cap off the night. This match was an easy 3-star contest. I hope to see more Matt Sydal on my television, and Dante Martin has a great future for himself in this industry. ‘
Overall this was a good episode of AEW Dark with some great new faces on the product! Nothing super special on the card – but hey, that’s AEW Dark!
