#AndNEW: Britt Baker Wins AEW Women’s World Championship at Double or Nothing

Britt Baker at Double Or Nothing

On Sunday night at All Elite Wrestling’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view, number one ranked contender Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. defeated Hikaru Shida to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion. With the win, Baker becomes the fourth woman to hold the championship since its inception.

Britt Baker had one incredible run to the championship, as over the last year she had a chance of attitude that raised her game to an entirely new level. Her rivalry with Thunder Rosa, which concluded with the Unsanctioned Lights Out match at St. Patrick’s Day Slam, helped Baker show the world that while she could talk the talk, she was also able to walk the walk. As she now dawns a new era of D.M.D. as champion, one has to imagine that her back and forth with Rosa may after all not be over.

Shida’s run as champion concludes at a record 372 days as champion, the longest title reign in the history of AEW. Shida fought valiantly as champion and helped raise the women’s division to a whole new level. She was not only the division’s necessary star but someone who will be appreciated for years to come in AEW.

And while her reign was great, it’s time for “The Doctor” to paint the division in her own vision as its champion.
