Alex Abrahantes has become a featured part of AEW Dynamite as the new manager for Penta El Zero Miedo. What began as just a translator role for Penta has evolved into Abrahantes becoming a weasely heel manager that interferes on Penta’s behalf. What many may not know is that Abranates has been involved in wrestling since the late 90s and previously worked for WWE before finding his new role in AEW. Let’s take a look back at Alex Abrahantes’ wrestling journey.
Alex Abrahantes trained under Bruce Hart at the Hart Brothers’ School of Wrestling in Ontario, Canada. Hart helped him come up with the gimmick “too phat” Yutzak Arafat which was a comedic heel gimmick that Abrahantes used from 1998 until 2000 when his in-ring tenure ended. Before training with Hart he did some training and work with a local backyard promotion. Not happy with just taking part in the ring Abrahantes got a taste for promoting and set up the Penn State Pro Wrestling Club where he booked and promoted shows as part of the club.
It had always been Abrahantes’ dream to work for the WWE and he got that opportunity when he was hired to be a member of the creative team where he worked closely with Vince McMahon to write for RAW and WWE’s various other shows at the time. While he was a part of the writing team Abrahantes did appear on screen in a segment with The Rock.
Following his departure from WWE Abrahantes moved on to do work with TNA IMPACT where he produced the Spanish Commentary and provided web content for TNA Today. Abrahantes got involved in a few different Lucha libre projects like Lucha Libre USA, a short-lived attempt to bring Lucha libre to U.S. TV, and Superkick Lucha Libre, a comedic promotion. Before joining AEW in 2019, Alex Abrahantes also spent 4 years as lead Spanish announcer for Ring Of Honor.
While he isn’t a name many fans will know Alex Abrahantes has been involved in wrestling for many years and has a lot of experience in various roles. This newest role may be the high point of his career but he has already shown some talent with the microphone in hand and is a major asset for AEW.
