The much-talked-about Wednesday Night Wars have come to an end as WWE NXT has officially made the move to Tuesday nights. This is likely a ripple effect of NBCSN shutting down meaning there will be a swell of Wednesday Night Hockey games taking NXT’s old slot opposite AEW Dynamite. This move was made official as WWE and USA announced a “multi-year” extension to the contract between the two parties to continue airing NXT on USA Network.
This move could be best for both NXT and AEW as both shows running unopposed will feel no pressure to rush things in order to outperform the other in viewership. It will also mean much less switching back and forth from fans who can now watch both shows without having to make a decision over two matches or segments.
This move was slightly telegraphed by the recent announcement that IMPACT Wrestling was moving its flagship show IMPACT! On AXS TV to Thursday nights presumably in an effort to avoid competing with NXT. We now have an unprecedented situation where we have a televised wrestling show every weekday with RAW on Monday, NXT on Tuesday, AEW & MLW FUSION on Wednesday, IMPACT! on Thursday, and SmackDown on Fridays. What a time to be a wrestling fan!
