With NWA Women’s World Champion Serena Deeb temporarily out of action due to a knee injury, the spot on the card that would have been her title defense was instead made into a #1 contenders match. Arguably the two most popular women since the inception of NWA Powerrr, Kamille and Thunder Rosa were the obvious choices to take this spot. They certainly did not disappoint either, putting out a slugfest with both women leaving everything in the ring. However, despite the momentum Rosa had coming into the match after her success on AEW Dynamite, the “Brickhouse” Kamille came out as the better woman. Kamille out-powered the resilient Rosa, hitting two spears to pick up the win.
Kamille became the most talked-about competitor in the NWA without ever stepping foot in the ring or even speaking. She worked as the silent enforcer for NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis, inciting intrigue in audiences every time she gave the false impression that she may finally speak. She soon joined Aldis in their Strictly Business faction, along with Royce Isaacs and Thom Latimer.
However, it was over a year before Kamille was actually seen in a ring. She made her in-ring debut for the NWA in a dark match in January 2020 before making her official television debut at NWA Superpowerrr. However, the airing of this episode was delayed several months due to the pandemic, as well as the departure of Dave Lagana, consequently shutting down the NWA. Kamille would continue to dominate during the hiatus, competing in the UWN and CCW to keep her current undefeated streak alive.
Thunder Rosa, however, does not lose anything in her defeat. Originally featured on NWA Powerrr alongside Melina, it was soon obvious that she was more than a second to anybody. Rosa’s charisma and infection would earn her a shot at the NWA Women’s World Championship, winning the title from Allysin Kay at NWA Hard Times, ironically the final PPV before the pandemic. Despite losing the title to Deeb on an episode of UWN Primetime Live, Rosa would keep busy with AEW. Her most recent match for the promotion was just last Wednesday, battling in an insane Unsanctioned matchup with Britt Baker that may have already marked down as their match of the year.
While Kamille came out the winner and will quickly become the dominant face of the NWA Women’s division, Rosa is well on her way to being the top woman in both AEW and NWA.
