WALTER Passes Pete Dunne as Longest Reigning WWE-NXT United Kingdom Champion

WALTER Now Gunther

History has been made once again involving the NXT United Kingdom Championship. Today, Feb. 19, 2021, marks the day that WALTER officially passes Pete Dunne as the longest-reigning United Kingdom Champion in history. It was on April 5, 2019, at NXT TakeOver: New York that WALTER defeated Dunne to end his 685-day reign and it almost seemed impossible that the record would be broken at all. It was not only broken but broken immediately.

WALTER Pete Dunne NXT TakeOver New York

Since the original United Kingdom tournament that concluded on Jan. 15, 2017, to name the first-ever WWE United Kingdom Champion (now NXT), there have only been three champions in the history of the title. It has become one of the more prestigious titles in WWE history by that measure.

“The Ring General” debuted at the first-ever NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool and it was there that the world knew he would be on top soon after. Since becoming champion, he has defended the championship successfully seven times. He has defended it against the biggest names in NXT UK, including Dunne, inaugural champion Tyler Bate, and Ilja Dragunov. Two of those defenses were debatably the match of the year while WALTER was able to survive in all of them. The Imperium leader seems to only get better every outing and as he sits at 686 days as champion, it’s clear many more are sure to come as he remains the most dominant champion in all of WWE.

As NXT UK continues to get back into the swing of things and a tease he could be on NXT soon enough, WALTER’s run can keep rolling on. The question is now simple — who will end the historic reign of the champion? Time will tell.
