NJPW Forbidden Door well and truly open?

Misterioso, a Mexican luchador who has been wrestling as a part of New Japan Pro Wrestling in the past year wrestling 11 matches on NJPW Strong, will make his AEW Dark debut this week in a match against Brandon Cutler. Misterioso’s debut is notable as he will be the first NJPW wrestler to appear on AEW Dark, coming through the Forbidden Door to make his AEW debut.  AEW has filed trademarks for the “Forbidden Door” and Forbidden Portal” which has whipped wrestling fans into a frenzy with speculation running wild about a future long-term partnership with New Japan.

The deal is said to bring benefits to both AEW and New Japan with both promotions having the chance to do huge talent exchanges, which has AEW fans chomping at the bit to see the likes of Okada and Ibushi on Dynamite. However New Japan will also get a lot of benefits from the partnerships with AEW, as AEW Dark gives the NJPW young boys a fantastic chance to build on their wrestling experience by working the American style with AEW wrestlers on the Tuesday show. Misterioso could be the first of many NJPW stars to wrestle on Dark which will potentially be the start of a very exciting future AEW Dark.

Renee Michelle makes her debut

WWE fans will recognize Renee Michelle from her appearance on WWE TV, when she appeared with her real-life husband Drake Maverick, in a humorous little storyline where Drake Maverick’s frequent attempts to become the WWE 24/7 Champion got in the way of their relationship. So devoted to the storyline were Maverick and Michelle that they allowed WWE cameras to film their actual wedding, with the 24/7 Championship getting in the way of their big day.

Renee Michelle never wrestled for the WWE main roster in that storyline, but she is an experienced wrestler in her own right. Michelle is known for her work in Maryland Championship Wrestling, East Coast Wrestling Association, and National Wrestling League in which she became a Women’s Champion in each promotion. She has also wrestled in SHINE Wrestling as well as having a few appearances in WWE before the Drake Maverick storyline. She appeared as a Rosebud for Adam Rose on the 2014 edition of the Slammy Awards and was also a competitor in the 2017 Mae Young Classic, in which she lost in the first round to Candice LeRae. This week on AEW Dark she will wrestle Shanna in what should be an exciting match.
