Brian Myers Officially Signs with IMPACT Wrestling

Brian Myers Impact

It appears that the “Most Professional Wrestler” has officially found his long-term home in IMPACT wrestling. While this isn’t entirely surprising, seeing as Brian Myers spent the majority of his 2020 making appearances and competing in IMPACT Wrestling, this does secure Myers for more opportunities in the company to become a big-name player. Myers announced his re-signing on his Twitter last night, stating that IMPACT “made the best decision of [their] life” and that they are lucky to have “a workhorse in the prime of his career” now secured in the company.

Brian Myers is more famously known by his WWE moniker Curt Hawkins, where he spent most of his career. After being trained by Mikey Whipwreck in New York, Hawkins signed a developmental contract with WWE in 2006. His most notable beats in the company came alongside Zack Ryder as members of La Familia. They became known as “edgeheads”, working as match insurance for the “Rated R Superstar” Edge.

Hawkins parted ways with WWE in 2013 after a brief stint in NXT. He then made his first appearances for IMPACT Wrestling (then known as TNA) in 2015 before returning to WWE. Here, Hawkins was used as more of a jobber for other talent, which manifested into a surprisingly great story involving his redemption from a 269 match losing streak, the longest losing streak in WWE’s “modern era”. This eventually lead to Hawkins and Ryder emotionally winning the tag team titles at Wrestlemania.

However, Hawkins would find himself as a member of WWE’s mass Covid-induced talent releases in April 2020. Since then, Hawkins, now under his real name, has made appearances in WrestlePro and IMPACT, defeating the likes of Willie Mack, Tommy Dreamer, and Swoggle and also challenging Eddie Edwards for the IMPACT World Championship in his IMPACT re-debut. Myers new heel persona, promoting himself as one of the most important wrestlers in the world, has been some of his best work to date.

While the extent and details of Myers’ contract have yet to be confirmed, It is fair to say that in committing officially to IMPACT wrestling for 2021, Myers will be positioned as a top heel for the company. Combined with his experience as a wrestling coach and trainer, Myers may possibly be the most influential signing for IMPACT’s future.
