Those who predicted Ace Austin would have a break out year in 2021 were not disappointed by the results of the Super X Cup Tournament at IMPACT Wrestling Genesis. The former X-Division champion, who spent the majority of last year off television for perplexing reasons, went into the tournament as the clear favorite. However, the tournament competitors overall put on spectacular performances, with Blake Christian, in particular, putting Austin’s win in possible doubt.
Ace Austin handily defeated Suicide in the first bout of the tournament, while Blake Christian pulled out a great win over another young, unsigned talent in KC Navarro. “All Heart” Blake Christian then lived up to his moniker as he managed a surprise upset over IMPACT favorite Crazzy Steve, who had a great amount of momentum behind him after defeating Austin, Navarro, and Christian in a fatal 4 way this past Tuesday on IMPACT television. Meanwhile, Ace Austin seemed to breeze through into another victory over an emotionally distraught Cousin Jake.
The final match in the tournament told a great story, with Ace Austin coming off as the seasoned talent despite him and Christian being the same age. Christian pulled out all of the stops, attempting 450 splashes and desperate pinfall attempts to overcome his vicious foe. Despite Christian’s determination, Ace Austin hit the fold to become the 4th ever winner of the Super X Cup Tournament. He joins the lineup of past winners like Chris Sabin, Samoa Joe, and Dezmond Xavier.

Ace Austin is a former X Division champion, having won the title in a ladder match at Bound for Glory 2019. He lost the title at Rebellion back in April to Willie Mack, ending his reign at 271 days. With this impressive win in the Super X Tournament, along with his win as top X Division wrestler of 2020, it can be expected that Austin will be in title contention once again very soon.
