Preview: WWE NXT UK (12/17/20)

NXT UK Gallus The Hunt

With the following two Thursdays likely being Christmas and New Years specials, tonight’s edition of NXT UK could very well be the last proper one of this unprecedented year. The card for tonight’s show is as follows;

  • NXT UK Tag Team Championships: Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) (c) vs. The Hunt (Wild Boar & Primate)
  • Kay Lee Ray vs. Isla Dawn
  • Rampage Brown vs. Josh Terry
  • 2 on 1 Handicap Match: Saxon Huxley vs. Jack Starz & Levi Muir

The End For Gallus?

Having reigned as the NXT UK Tag Team Champions since October 2019, GallusMark Coffey and Wolfgang may have very well met their match in the form of The Hunt (Wild Boar and Primate), who will, of course, be accompanied by Eddie Dennis. ‘The Power Forward’ and ‘The Regulator’ have been quite the dominating force, with their reign as champions leading them to gain entry into this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in normal NXT, which was followed days later by their tremendous Ladder Match alongside The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake), Imperium (Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner), and the team they defeated to win the titles, South Wales Subculture (Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster). They’ve never come across a tandem quite like The Hunt, though. Flanked by ‘The Welsh Dragon’, Boar and Primate are at the peak of their careers, fresh off a victory over Andrews and Webster in last week’s main event. Now, they could well be on their way to becoming the fourth NXT UK Tag Team Champions in history.

Women’s Division Escalates

NXT UK‘s women’s division is one of the best in the world right now, with Kay Lee Ray, Piper Niven, Jinny, Nina Samuels, Aoife Valkyrie, and Xia Brookside all providing something to the promotion, amongst others. It was KLR who successfully defended her title against Niven in a hellacious Falls Count Anywhere Match a few weeks ago, albeit with the assistance of ‘The Fashionista’. The beef between Jinny and Piper has continued since, with the former insisting their rivalry will be settled once and for all. How? That remains to be seen at the time of writing, but a match between the two would certainly be an entertaining clash. Furthermore, Brookside battled Isla Dawn last Thursday, a match that saw Nina Samuels displayed across the screen. Samuels and Brookside haven’t been seeing eye to eye as of late, with Xia being an unwanted recurring guest on The Nina Samuels Show. Again, a singles match between them would be highly entertaining, and gives someone further down the NXT UK pecking order the chance to bag themselves a chance at Kay Lee Ray’s Women’s Championship.

Who’s Next For The Champions?

Last week’s NXT UK marked two mammoth championship contests, as Jordan Devlin retained the Crusierweight Championship over Oliver Carter after issuing an open challenge, whereas A-Kid made the first defence of the Heritage Cup Championship as he saw off a challenge from the tag partner of the man he defeated to become the inaugural champion, the returning Tyler Bate. It’s unknown at the time of writing whether or not Devlin’s open challenges will be a continuous feature on NXT UK going forward, but, as like A-Kid’s Heritage Cup Championship, the sheer amount of quality matches that would be on offer from both title divisions would be endless. Hell, put the two champions opposite one another, and watch the stars fly in.
