Beyond Dynamite: Catching Up On The AEW YouTube Shows (11/18/20)

AEW YouTube Shows

While AEW Dynamite is the crown jewel through which AEW is built, the company also relies on several other weekly YouTube shows to help advance stories, create additional character development and overall aid to the AEW fan experience. As AEW began without TV, the company even relied on their YouTube presence to build to their first PPV and it was a massive success. Today, AEW’s family of shows includes Being the Elite, which is managed and created by the Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler, Sammy’s Vlog, which is created by Sammy Guevara, and AEW DARK, which currently serves as AEW’s second in-ring wrestling show. Through this weekly series, we’ll be recapping all three, making sure that everyone is in the know of any developing stories taking place outside of Dynamite.

Sammy’s Vlog

Cutting the BTE Title in Half

Sammy Guevara’s weekly vlog continues to get more integrated in the AEW universe especially BTE, where there have been several crossovers in the past few months. One such moment occurred on Tuesday as payoff from the bit that began on BTE, of the Bucks getting ribbed thinking Guevara and Fuego Del Sol accidentally destroyed the BTE Championship. In reality, Guevara had a second belt created and sawed that one in half, the process of which we saw unfold on the vlog. But why let a good bit go to waste? Guevara didn’t just rib the Bucks, but also Ricky Starks, Christopher Daniels, and even Tony Khan for a few moments.

Fuego Del Sol and the Tornado DDT

Weekly viewers of Sammy’s Vlog will know that there has been an ongoing storyline revolving Fuego Del Sol and the elusive tornado DDT. According to Cody, Del Sol is the master of the move and the reason he keeps losing on DARK is because he’s yet to hit the move. Throughout the episode, Guevara interviewed wrestlers about Del Sol’s match against Kip Sabian asking who they thought would win. In the midst of this, Del Sol and QT Marshall continued to tease an upcoming match with Marshall continuing to duck his luchador favorito for fear of the tornado DDT. Offscreen, Jerry Lynn however was not so lucky, as it was made to look like he took the devastating move.

Being The Elite

A Boyhood Dream Realized for John Silver

On Monday’s Being the Elite, Best Friends’ Trent defended the BTE Championship that he won the prior week when be defeated John Silver and Matt Jackson in the gator golf final. Trent, who made no secret of just how little he wanted the belt, offered Silver a rematch. Only this time, it was in the flip the bottle and land it contest. With Alex Reynolds and Orange Cassidy backing up their respective partners, it was Silver who landed the water bottle three times, ultimately claiming his first title within the AEW universe.

A Game of Among Us

A large portion of the nearly 30-minute episode was dedicated to members of the roster, specifically Colt Cabana, Evil Uno, Kip Sabian, Alex Abrahantes, Nyla Rose, Leva Bates, and Brandon Cutler playing a game of Among Us. What’s Among Us? It’s a hugely popular role playing game where everyone has to complete a set of tasks before getting killed by the imposters. Only the two imposters, Cutler and Sabian, knew they were the imposters. The goal of the imposters is to kill and not get caught and no thanks to Sabian, Cutler was able to seamlessly eliminate the bulk of the roster without being found out leading his and Sabian’s team to victory. Oh, and everyone shared their Twitch TV channels in what Sabian called them stealing his bit.

A New Matt Hardy?

As Matt Hardy congratulated but also chided the Young Bucks on their tag team victory at Full Gear, the Bucks observed a new confident and cocky Hardy.  Hardy undersold the Bucks win while talking about how he and brother Jeff revolutionized tag team wrestling. Hardy also took credit for creating both the cinematic match, which he brought to three different companies and suggested was Full Gear’s best on the card, as well as took credit for creating WWE’s TLC. When Hardy left, the Bucks observed that this didn’t seem like any previous version of Hardy, but rather an “AEW original.” We’ll see where this goes.

Young Bucks Plug their New Book

The Young Bucks’ new book came out a few days ago but before it did, Matt and  Nick Jackson spent some time signing copies of their book with personal messages that they handed out to members of the AEW roster such as Cody, Chris Jericho and Tony Khan. The Bucks also previewed the book noting that within it was unheard stories about their childhood, career struggles and a time where Matt almost quit wrestling before Nick convinced him not to.

Five Lost His Hair

After months of declaring himself the hair guy, Alex Reynolds had an idea to help cheer up John Silver following his loss to Orange Cassidy at Full Gear. Reynolds realized that Dark Order has one thing in common, beating up on Five. Reynolds suggested that it was time to cut off Five’s luscious blonde locks (aka wig), and so they did, as well as for some reason, his pubes, which Silver suggested. It was a classic Dark Order bit, the type of which seems to be over with the BTE audience.

AEW Dark

Colten Gunn officially joins The Gunn Club

This week Colten made his in-ring debut alongside his brother and father as The Gunn Club picked up an impressive victory over BSHP KING, Joey O’Riley and Sean Maluta.  We have previously seen Colten accompany Austin and Billy to the ring earlier in the year but this was his first taste of in ring action.

Back in June Billy filed several trademarks including the name “Sons of a Gunn” which is speculated to be the future tag team name of Austin and Colten with Billy possibly taking more of a managerial role.

This puts Austin and Billy on TEN tag team wins for the year with their only defeat coming in a triple threat tag match with Dark Order and Private Party.  With the group now aligned to The Nightmare Family we will likely see more of The Gunns on AEW Dynamite in the near future.

Britt Baker debuts The Waiting Room

To the delight of many we get some more Britt Baker with her new segment which will hopefully become a regular feature.  She interviewed The Hybrid 2 (Jack Evans and Angelico) who tore through the tag division with digs at The Young Bucks, Cody and Brian Pillman Jr before putting SCU on notice.

This built up nicely to the main even of the show in which Jack Evans got the win over Christopher Daniels.

Leyla Hirsch picks up her first win

A big win for Hirsch who has had two tough singles matches in recent weeks against Hikaru Shida and Serena Deeb.  What she lacks in height she makes up for with in-ring ability and she showed impressive technical ability in a submission victory over youngster Tesha Price with an armbar.

The Acclaimed and Brandon Cutler continue their win streaks

Anthony Bowens and Max Caster have been on the last four episodes of Dark in a row with their only loss coming in their tag team debut against Best Friends.  Since then they are now on a three match win streak after picking up a quick win over Angel Fashion & D3.  There is clearly high hopes for the duo with a dynamic entrance and good mic skills combined with a solid in ring performance.  They are ones to keep an eye on going into 2021!

Much to the disgust of “Pretty” Peter Avalon at ringside Brandon Cutler picked up his third win in a row after getting the pin on RYZIN.  The question will now be how far can he go after riding such a significant losing streak with a career record to 3-25-2.

Ricky Starks continued to pick up wins as he has entered the rankings thanks to his winning record on AEW Dark

Thunder Rosa sends a message to Serena Deeb

Since losing her title to Deeb, Rosa has been on a mission to regain the NWA World Women’s Championship and unfortunately for Lindsay Snow, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and bore the brunt of Rosas fury.
