Preview: AEW DARK (11/6/20)

AEW DARK

AEW’s Full Gear is headed our way this Saturday and as always, that means we’ll be treated to a very special edition of AEW DARK tonight. Albeit, a much smaller one than the most recent few have been, this edition of DARK still has some good matches planned and even more first-time debuts.

Brandon Cutler vs Michael Nakazawa

Brandon Cutler spent nearly two years grinding it out for his first win in AEW and last week on DARK, that’s exactly what he got. And now, Cutler’s mantra and t-shirt design is simple, “one win can change everything.” It seems unlikely that AEW went to the lengths it did in the Cutler/Peter Avalon feud just for things to end with the winner going on another long losing streak. Look for Cutler to begin a mini DARK push with a win over Nakazawa tonight.

Sean Maluta and RYZIN vs Evil Uno and Stu Grayson

The Dark Order’s top tag team will look to continue their winning ways when they take on the returning Sean Maluta and RYZIN. Grayson and Uno have enjoyed success on DARK and with the rest of the Dark Order in their corner, it’s hard to imagine the duo will have a tough time in what should amount to be little more than an enhancement match.

Trevor Read vs Ricky Starks

The Absolute Ricky Starks has been one of AEW’s shining stars especially on DARK. Starks has put on consistently good matches every time out and has elevated his opponents in the process. In his AEW debut, Trevor Read will no doubt benefit from the Starks bump. Wrestling out of Florida, Read has been active since 2009 and has made appearances for REAL, RONIN, Gangrel’s Wrestling Asylum, Combat Zone Wrestling, World Wrestling Network and more. This will be his AEW debut.

Tesha Price vs Big Swole

Big Swole has to be feeling pretty good about her position as she continues to climb the ladder in the AEW women’s division. Swole has picked up some big wins lately and is well on her way to being among the top of the division. She’ll get a chance to get another victory on Friday night when she faces the debuting Tesha Price. Like many of the recruits AEW has brought in for DARK, Price is relatively new to wrestling with under three years experience under her belt. Wrestling out of Michigan, Price has made appearances for Shine, SHIMMER and Rise, as well as WWE where ironically, she faced one of Swole’s biggest enemies, Britt Baker, in a dark match during the Mae Young Classic in 2018.

Matt Sydal vs Christopher Daniels

Two veterans of the ring, specifically the one of honor, will go head-to-head when Matt Sydal takes on Christopher Daniels on Friday night. These two are no strangers to each other. In fact, they even won the Ring of Honor tag team championship once during their time together as a team from 2006-07. Sydal and Daniels also had a run as rivals, which occured shortly prior to their teaming up. These two have a combined nearly 50 years in the industry, with Sydal in his 20th year as a pro and Daniels in his 27th. DARK has had some great matches in the past and this very well could be one of them. Expect these two to leave it all on the line on Friday night.

Lee Johnson vs Chuck Taylor

After spending much of his AEW career as one half of Best Friends, Chuck Taylor gets a rare singles match on Friday night as he takes on the rising star, Lee Johnson. We’ve said it here before but Johnson is a name to watch, especially recently as it was announced that he had joined Cody’s Nightmare Family stable earlier this week. A trainee of the Nightmare Factory, Johnson has put on great matches in his multitude of DARK appearances but he’ll encounter a new dance partner in the Kentucky Gentleman. Cornered by Trent and Orange Cassidy, who has his own big match at Full Gear, Taylor will most likely win this one. But win or lose, Johnson has and will continue to impress as one of AEW’s brightest young stars.

Griff Garrison vs Ariel Dominguez

Speaking of a guy who has been known for his tag team lately, Griff Garrison will be in action Friday night looking for his first singles win in AEW. And singles wins are normally a sign of well, being signed, so that’s something to keep an eye on. Garrison will face the debuting Ariel Dominguez, who is largely known for his time in Team Filthy in MLW. He has just two years pro wrestling experience under his belt but Dominguez is no stranger to grappling, having been an All-American at the University of Iowa and amateur wrestling state champion.
