Without a shadow of a doubt, the number one female wrestler in All Elite Wrestling would have to be the “Role Model” Dr. Britt Baker. The World’s Most Passive-Aggressive Dentist has improved leaps and bounds in the ring and on the mic. The Good Doctor is AEW’s leading lady for years to come. Dr. Baker’s character work has been phenomenal. With entertaining skits alongside Rebel and Tony Schiavone, she has overcome AEW’s uninspired booking of their female wrestlers. Since day one, she has received the most focus out of any woman in AEW. Given how much work she has put into herself as a performer, Britt Baker absolutely needs to become AEW Women’s Champion.
All Except Women
It’s no secret that AEW is doing a poor job booking their women’s division. The women of All Elite are not afforded regular promo time. In addition, they are only given one match an episode that rarely goes over five to six minutes. Hikaru Shida, while a perfect in-ring worker, has been given nothing from a character standpoint. Nyla Rose has been off TV for months that AEW didn’t bother to give an explanation until this past Dynamite. Thunder Rosa is still exclusive to the NWA and also has been off TV for some reason. Finally, since the Joshi are unable to travel to the United States due to this godawful pandemic, the AEW female roster has literally been cut in half. The only female wrestlers AEW bother to give any sort of regular interest into are Britt and Brandi Rhodes.
Britt Baker broke through AEW’s glass ceiling by changing the game. She is knocking it out of the park with her promos. Her Role Model persona has drawn favorable comparisons to classic WCW Chris Jericho. Like 1998 Jericho, she is the standout in a division that desperately needs more focus. Not to mention her wrestling style has evolved to properly fit her character as a methodical dentist. Her past squash match against KiLynn King, coupled with a curb stomp, shows her evolving as a performer with a wrestling style that fits her gimmick. Previously, Dr. Baker wrestled a clinic against Shida back in April as well as the Tooth and Nail match at All Out. The Good Doctor has become a resident standout for AEW. She is more than ready to become champion.
The Golden Role Model
It was always going to be inevitable for Britt Baker to become AEW Women’s Champion. Since she was the first woman signed to AEW, The Elite feel strongly about her as a performer. While in-ring work is important, a wrestler is only as good and memorable as the character they portray. The Role Model has become a fleshed-out gimmick that fans gravitate towards. Dr. Baker has been putting on great character vignettes that should be on Dynamite more. Even while injured, Baker was still an instrumental aspect of Dynamite for weeks. She is so integral to AEW that without her, AEW really have no idea what to do with the women’s division.
No other woman in AEW is on the same level as Britt Baker. Not even the Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida or Nyla Rose. While Serena Deeb and Thunder Rosa are tremendous athletes. It’s clear AEW aren’t high on any female wrestler the way they are on Baker. AEW are clearly positioning Britt as their top female star. Giving her the title is not only deserved; Britt Baker becoming AEW Women’s Champion is a necessity. As much as fans will want AEW to actually provide opportunities coupled with regular television time with other female wrestlers, The ugly truth is until Britt Baker is the titleholder, AEW will not care about their women’s division.
Britt Baker isn’t the face of AEW’s women’s division. She IS the AEW’s women’s division. Even though she is not the champion, the roster revolves around her. Though the booking may be tedious, the Role Model is an elite performer primed for greatness. She is becoming the star of the show AEW are envisioning her in order to carry the women’s division. Britt Baker needs to win the title ASAP, and that’s undisputed.
