#AndNew: Su Yung Wins Impact Knockouts Championship

Su Yung

On a night full of surprise returns and unprecedented action, the biggest return came with a shock title change. The scheduled match for the Impact Knockouts Championship was meant to see the blowoff of the savage feud between champion Deonna Purrazzo and “Smiley” Kylie Rae. Rae said that the feud had nothing to do with revenge, despite Purrazzo breaking the arm of Rae’s best friend Suzie a couple weeks ago on Impact television. However, Kylie Rae was nowhere to be found when her music played, to the confusion of commentary but not Purrazzo, who seemed to know more then she let on. Purrazzo would set a challenge for, “any man or woman in the locker room currently alive”.

Su Yung Regains Knockouts Championship

After almost a year of being subdued, Su Yung would answer the challenge, shedding her “good girl” persona to give in to the dark side once again. While it may not have been revenge for Kylie, it definitely felt like revenge for Yung, who brutalized the champion throughout the match. Purrazzo answered with her technical ingenuity, manipulating the undead limbs of Yung, but she would answer with the return of her own submission: the Purge. The finish saw a string of reversal between Purrazzo’s Venus de Milo and Yung’s mandible claw. Yung would come out on top, hitting the Panic Switch and winning the Knockouts Championship for the second time in her career.

The former Shine wrestling star made her return to Impact on March 22nd, 2018, debuting as the “Undead Bride” in a feud with then-champion Allie. She would win the championship from Allie on May 31st that year in a “Last Rights Match”, but would lose it 110 days later to Tessa Blanchard. Su Yung is infamous for her dark and morbid storylines and matches, especially during the “Dark Wars” in early 2019. However, over the past year, she was seen on television as Suzie, a child-like character meant to be the foil of the Undead Bride.

It will be interesting to see how Kylie Rae, the best friend of Suzie, reacts to this win. However, it is impossible to ignore the real question: where is Kylie Rae? Hopefully, this question will be answered this Tuesday on Impact.
