Zeus Wins AJPW Champion Carnival 2020

Zeus

All Japan Pro Wrestling has been running it’s annual round-robin tournament the Champion Carnival in recent weeks.  The reduced tournament usually takes place in spring but due to COVID-19 was pushed back to now.  After a gruelling tournament Zeus emerged victorious after defeating Kento Miyahara in the final, this is Zeus’ first time winning the tournament.

Former Triple Crown Champion Zeus was in A block, which was a very tough block containing current champion Suwama and Jake Lee.  Zeus ran the block tough, emerging undefeated, even defeating Suwama by referee’s decision before defeating AJPW ace Miyahara in the final.  Zeus was made to look great in this tournament and now seems like a real threat to Suwama’s run as champion.

Zeus has spent most of his time in the tag team division in AJPW, he currently holds the All Asia Tag Team Championships, but his 2018 Triple Crown Championship win, albeit brief, proved that he can be a main eventer for the company.  With this tournament win, he seems to have big things in his future and provides a tough challenger for Suwama.  Although we think Suwama retains as he still has a number of opponents he can make defenses against.
