Preview: AEW Dynamite (9/23/20)

Brodie Lee Orange Cassidy AEW Dynamite

Following last week’s brutal wars, AEW Dynamite is picking up right where it left off with yet more trouble brewing for this week’s edition. Jon Moxley is leading his troops into war, Thunder Rosa is getting another shot to defeat Ivelisse again, and Orange Cassidy will get his first opportunity at a title since joining the roster.

It’s shaping up to be another chaotic night on Dynamite. But that’s when this show is at it’s most fun.

TNT Championship: Mr. Brodie Lee vs Orange Cassidy

Coming off a successful title defense against Dustin Rhodes, Mr. Brodie Lee is back at it against a perhaps, unexpected opponent in Orange Cassidy. But with recent wins over Jericho and a presence that makes him a fan favorite, Cassidy stepped up to challenge the champ and he’ll get his match Wednesday night. He may have Best Friends in his corner given the assist he provided last week, but Lee will also have the Dark Order. And as it’s shown, having the threat of their interference has paid off big time for the group’s leader. Will Cassidy be able to overcome the numbers advantage in order to claim AEW gold? Or will Lee’s dominance continue to hold strong?

Hikaru Shida & Thunder Rosa vs Ivelisse & Diamante

This week may just be the best women’s match in AEW’s short history as for the first time ever, Hikaru Shida, the AEW champ, and Thunder Rosa, the NWA champ, will team up to take on the women’s tag team cup winners, Diamante and Ivelisse, in a huge matchup. The bad blood between Rosa and Ivelisse is certainly real and it’s spilled over into this second meeting between the two. After Rosa defeated Ivelisse, this will be a second chance for the La Sicaria to get her revenge. But it won’t be easy. Rosa and Shida are two incredible talents and won’t go down without a fight. Rest assured though, on a night of strong matches, this one easily could end up being the one to steal the show.

Jon Moxley, Darby Allin & Will Hobbs vs Brian Cage, Lance Archer & Ricky Starks

Lance Archer has since tested positive for COVID-19.  Jon Moxley will defend his championship against Eddie Kingston on this show

Jon Moxley is always ready to go to war and last week, thanks to Team Taz, the war came to him. The unstoppable one, Moxley was blindsided last week as Brian Cage and Ricky Starks clearly aren’t through with the champ. But they’ll have to wait in line as its Lance Archer’s turn and he’s ready for it. But as things so often go in wrestling, the enemy of my enemy is my friend and with Taz lobbying for Cage to get the first shot at Archer should he win the title, these two are on the same side for now. So with Archer, Cage and Starks a united front, where does that leave the champion? Normally a lone wolf, Moxley got the unexpected help from Will Hobbs, who evened the odds with a chair. But as Moxley pointed out, that left them in need of a third man. So Moxley called on the help of a former one-time ally, Darby Allin. On Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite, Moxley will lead his men into a brutal war, one who’s outcome could very well shift the momentum in Moxley and Archer’s ongoing feud.
