Roppongi 3K Vacate IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships

Roppongi 3K

Many fans expected this given that Yoh has injured his knee and seemingly will be out for some time but it has now been made official that Roppongi 3K will be vacating the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships.  The news was first announced by Sho in a post-match interview and was later confirmed by NJPW.

The promotion has not yet announced what they will be doing with the championships now that they are vacant but with KOPW and the G1 Climax coming up the titles may be vacant for some time before they crown new champions.

Roppongi 3K were in the midst of their fourth run as Jr. tag team champions as the babyface duo had become the aces of the division and have spent the majority of their run in the title picture.  With Yoh’s injury, many fans believe that Sho can have a breakout year as a singles performer in the junior heavyweight division and that the two may outgrow the jr. tag division after all this time.  For Yoh, this is an unfortunate setback but depending on the landscape at the time of his return, he may also get a push on his return.
