In recent weeks a number of Joshi promotions and legends like Akira Hokuto and Yumiko Hotta had announced their participation in the same press conference, this caused a lot of speculation amongst fans but wonder no more. It was announced earlier today by Hokuto that Women’s Pro-Wrestling Assemble would be created for a number of promotions to work together to help one another out.
The promotions involved are Stardom, Ice Ribbon, PURE-J, OZ Academy, Sendai Girls, Marvelous, SEAdLINNNG, Pro Wrestling WAVE, and HEARTS (a new group featuring Yumiko Hotta). This collection of promotions working together is a huge deal as internal conflicts and politics are rife between a number of these promotions, such as SEAdLINNNG and Stardom who have long-standing issues.
The Women’s Pro-Wrestling Assemble group will hold its first show on October 1st at Ueno Park. There’s no card yet announced but depending on how well the promotions play with each other they could put on one of the most loaded supershows Joshi has seen in a long time. A 2011 tournament hosted by Sendai Girls that featured a number of promotions sending teams of 5 to compete comes to mind.
This is an exciting time for Joshi fans, months ago we questioned whether some of our favorite promotions would still exist and now they’ve all joined together to put on supershows and seemingly bury old grudges (although the extent remains to be seen).
