Report: Wade Barrett Returning To WWE As Commentator For NXT

Wade Barrett NXT

I’m afraid I’ve got some… good news? In an exclusive report by Pro Wrestling Sheet, it was revealed that Wade Barrett would be returning to WWE television for the first time in four years as a commentator for NXT. The report adds that this will currently be a one-off as no deal has been signed by Barrett to return full-time to WWE.

Barrett last appeared for WWE in 2016 as a member of the League of Nations. His final match saw him team up with Sheamus in a losing effort vs. The New Day for the WWE Tag Team Championships on Raw. Since leaving WWE, his time in wrestling has been mostly limited with him focusing more on an acting career than anything else.

Most recently, Barrett (real name Stu Bennett) worked for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in the same role as a commentator. He replaced Jim Cornette.

Barrett’s appearance is somewhat out of nowhere, but considering his longtime ability to talk and experience in the position already, he could be a great addition to the NXT commentary team. Even if it’s for one week.

NXT is live Wednesday night at 8 pm EST on USA Network.
