Ex-WWE Ref Mike Chioda Works Title Match on AEW Dynamite

One of the most surprising cuts during WWE’s Black Wednesday in April, that saw over 20 talents released from the company, was that of WWE Senior Referee Mike Chioda, who reffed for the WWE from 1989 until his release in April of 2020. On Wednesday night, Mike Chioda made a triumphant return to the ring in his referee stripes, refereeing the TNT Championship match between Cody Rhodes and challenger Scorpio Sky.

A friend of the longtime WWF executive Gorilla Monsoon‘s family, Mike Chioda first appeared for the WWE as a referee in 1989. Throughout his 31-year tenure with WWE, he reffed some huge matches, including the 1-2-3 Kid upset of Razor Ramon on Raw, Shawn Michaels vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin (WrestleMania XIV), The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan (WrestleMania X8), John Cena vs. The Rock (WrestleMania XXVIII), and many more. No word yet if Chioda’s appearance on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite is just a one-off or if he’s joining the AEW referee team on-going.
