After a shock return in the opening match of Slammiversary, the Motor City Machine Guns, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, were able to get the win over The Rascalz and show they haven’t missed a step in their time apart. Later in the broadcast, The North defended their tag team titles against Sami Callahan and Ken Shamrock resulting in Ethan Page cutting a promo stating they are the best team in history. This brought out MCMG a second time swerving many who thought this was the perfect moment to introduce the newly signed Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Sabin informed The North that they have a match signed for this coming Tuesday for a shot at the Tag Team Championship.
The North hold the longest single reign of the tag team titles in IMPACT history at over 374 days so far and is in their first run with the titles. While they have only been a team in IMPACT since 2019, Josh Alexander and Ethan Page started teaming together on the independent circuit as Monster Mafia in 2011 while also making appearances for Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla until 2015 when Alexander temporarily retired from pro wrestling due to a neck injury.

MCMG originally formed back in 2006 on the independent circuit but it wasn’t until 2007 TNA utilized the pair as a tag team. They remained an integral part of the roster winning the TNA Tag Team Championship once in a victory against Beer Money Inc at Victory Road 2010 before Alex Shelley opted not to renew his contract in 2012. Their “Best of Five” series with Beer Money Inc from 2010 is considered to be one of the greatest tag team rivalries in TNA history. Since then they have continued to team in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling on an intermittent basis.
