Austin Gunn Set To Return From Injury

Austin Gunn

Austin Gunn took to twitter last night confirming he has been out of action with a torn PCL in his left knee.  He has now completed physio and is now cleared to return to in-ring action.  Austin was injured while teaming with his father, the legendary Billy Gunn, as The Gunn Club in a winning effort against Shawn Spears and Peter Avalon.  The match took place on AEW Dark on January 14th 2020 and was his second appearance for AEW but his first to be televised.

Since the victory, many fans have wanted to see more of the father/son team but Austin has been restricted to escorting Billy to ringside or being seen as part of the crowd during tapings.  While his in-ring absence bemused many fans after The Gunn Club secured two victories from their initial matches, the news of his impending return was met with great positivity online.  Many followers and reporters have praised his initial work and noted in particular his charisma and ability to engage with the crowd.

The 25-year-old product of the Team 3D Academy is still learning the business and had a brief spell with ROH in 2019 before signing on with AEW.  With only 21 professional matches to his name, he is definitely a project but if he wants to become a tag team wrestler then there’s not many better to learn from than his Hall of Famer father Billy, who is an 11-time WWE tag team champion.

AEW boasts a diverse and talented tag division which will undoubtedly prove an excellent development grounds for him with experienced teams like FTR, Lucha Bros, and The Young Bucks. Combine this with the experience of industry legends Billy Gunn, Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson backstage there is no shortage of shoulders to tap to help keep him on the right path.
