While most of the big stories coming out of New Japan over the weekend revolved around EVIL‘s shocking win in the 2020 New Japan Cup, defection to Bullet Club, and winning the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships at NJPW Dominion, another set of titles changed hands on Saturday night when the Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi) defeated The Golden Aces (Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kota Ibushi) in their first title defense to bring the IWGP Tag Team titles back to Suzuki-gun for the first time since Killer Elite Squad‘s Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer held them in 2018.

The win marks Zack Sabre Jr.’s first time holding gold in NJPW since his debut in 2017 (although he has held the RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship three times and RevPro Undisputed British Tag Team titles with Minoru Suzuki) and continues Taichi’s return to prominence in the past year that also saw him capture the NEVER Openweight Championship on two occasions since 2018. He’s also a former 2x IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion with Suzuki-gun, once with TAKA Michinoku and once with Yoshinobu Kanemaru. Taichi also GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship for 283-days while Suzuki-gun was in “exile” in Pro Wrestling NOAH in 2015.
