Preview: AEW Dynamite (6/24/20)

AEW Dynamite

In what has been a long, torrid week for professional wrestling, AEW Dynamite returns this Wednesday.  We have a stacked card to look at, but it won’t feature Sammy Guevara or Jimmy Havoc.  Both AEW performers were caught up in the hugely important #SpeakingOut movement and have been rightfully dealt with.  So what does the young promotion have in-store for you this week? Let’s dive in and find out!

FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs Natural Nightmares (Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall) W/ Allie & Brandi Rhodes

https://twitter.com/AEWrestling/status/1274839788319842304

Last week, the Natural Nightmares (Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall) suffered their first defeat as a tag team.  In a tag team heavy show, they were defeated by AEW Tag Team champions, Kenny Omega and Adam Page.  This week, they hope to return to form against AEW’s hottest new acquisition, FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler).  FTR are undefeated themselves since debuting in All Elite Wrestling a few weeks ago, they will definitely be looking to add another big win to their tally here.  They likely will, too, as they must keep the momentum going in order to not become lost in an overcrowded tag team division.  That dreamy future match against The Young Bucks is growing near.

Jon Moxley In Action

AEW Dynamite

Ever since Brian Cage won the Casino Ladder Match at Double or Nothing 2020, he has been embroiled in a feud with AEW Champion, Jon Moxley.  Mox is afraid of no man, and despite Cage’s considerable athletic prowess and clear strength advantage, he’s not going to back down.  Taz knows this, and as the coach/advocate/mentor of Cage, he is doing his part in playing mind-games.  This week, he’s on commentary during Moxley’s match.  Will this lead to anything significant? Tune in to find out.

Mr. Brodie Lee & Colt Cabana vs Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss

For weeks, AEW have been teasing Colt Cabana joining the Dark Order.  The usually happy-go-lucky wrestler is an odd fit for the job, but we’ve seen stranger things in wrestling.  This week, he teams up with the “Exalted One”, Mr. Brodie Lee against Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss.  This might just be adding more tag teams to an already overtly saturated tag team division, but who cares.  It’s something to keep Brodie and Cabana busy.  Where will it lead? As always, tune in to find out.

Press Conference

This segment features a Cody press conference, where he will address his upcoming Fyter Fest match against Jake Hager.  There’s not really much more to add here.  Expect some talking, then a brawl, then maybe some shouting and then the two of them being separated.  That’s how these things usually go, right? Oh, Arn Anderson will be there too!

Matt Hardy vs Santana

Sammy Guevara was originally penned to face Matt Hardy on AEW Dynamite this week.  Of course, due to the aforementioned controversy, he was rightfully removed from this spot.  Instead, Santana – one-half of Santana & Ortiz – will step up to replace his Inner Circle comrade.  Matt Hardy terrorized Santana during the Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing 2020.  This week, the fans get to vote which version of Hardy (Broken, Unkillable or Old School) gets to face Santana.  We can expect a fun match here.

Lumberjack Match: Luchasaurus vs Wardlow

This should be great.  A true big-man, hoss monster match.  Luchasaurus takes on Wardlow in what is being billed as a lumberjack match.  For months now, Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt) have been feuding with Wardlow and Maxwell Jacob Friedman.  We perhaps thought this feud came to an end at Double or Nothing 2020, when MJF defeated Jungle Boy in the arguable match of the night.  Of course, it didn’t end and this time, the big boys go at it.  Don’t miss this.

Chris Jericho & Orange Cassidy Face Off

AEW Dynamite

Orange Cassidy has proven himself to be something of a draw for AEW Dynamite.  If you have been paying attention to the weekly ratings war between Dynamite and WWE NXT, you might have noticed that segments including Orange Cassidy have traditionally outdrew NXT.  Well, this week, he’s in the main event against the legend himself, Chris Jericho.  Cassidy, believe it or not, is a veteran of the game with well over a decade of experience.  Chris Jericho is, well, Chris Jericho.  Jericho is able to do comedy wrestling as good as anyone, which will benefit a match with Cassidy brilliantly.  Make sure not to miss this match and this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, live this Wednesday 8PM EST on TNT.
