Former SHIMMER Star Portia Perez Offers To Re-Do Derogatory Commentary

From 2006 through to her retirement in 2015, Canadian indie wrestler Portia Perez was one of the top stars in SHIMMER Wrestling. A former 2x SHIMMER Tag Team Champion alongside Nicole Matthews in The Canadian Ninjas, Perez was forced to retire in 2015 due to injuries. As well as in the ring, Perez also worked as a producer and booker for the company. With the viral movement created by #SpeakingOut on Twitter to expose the sexual harassment and abuse of women (and men) in the pro wrestling industry, Portia Perez – a loud supporter since it began – announced on Sunday that she was going to offer her services to re-do commentary for wrestlers and promotions, to replace any pre-existing footage that may have commentary with derogatory comments or possibly announced by an abuser. In exchange for these services, she’s asked that in return that “affected workers get free copies of the corrected shows.”

Portia Perez often found herself on guest commentary with SHIMMER Wrestling, so she has the experience on the mic to go along with her credentials of being an in-ring performer, producer, and booker. I haven’t watched enough recent wrestling to know if it’s current, but there are tons of my own matches that I can’t watch because the commentary is so degrading,” she stated in a Tweet reply. “I am happy to re-commentate footage from any era, everyone deserves to be able to watch their work and feel proud.”
