Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) Returning Live on June 20

For the past few years, New Jersey’s Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) has indeed changed the game for independent pro wrestling in the United States. What began as a regional promotion in Jersey Championship Wrestling (JCW) in 1999 and rebranded as GCW in 2015, it has exploded into one of the US indie scenes most national promotions, expanding to locations on the West Coast, Midwest, Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, and more. They’ve also taken GCW global, with shows in Mexico (working alongside Desastre Total Ultraviolento) and Japan (with Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS), and were set to debut in England this August, working with TNT Extreme Wrestling. They helped create a new culture in indie wrestling throughout WrestleMania Week with the first Joey Janela’s Spring Break event in 2017 and in 2019 launched The Collective, unifying multiple indies from around the US and the world into one unique week-long series of events. But then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the pro wrestling world as we know it was changed forever.

On Sunday afternoon, GCW finally announced their return to live shows with the reveal that GCW was making their debut in Indiana with June 20’s The Wrld on GCW, Part 2, being held at the White River State Park in Indianapolis. The venue is an outdoor venue and logistics are still being ironed out before showtime for both fan and performers safety, but they also posted a list of rules and regulations regarding the event beforehand. The tweet that issued the below graphic also mentioned that “fans are requested to wear face masks, masks will be provided at the door at no cost for fans in need,” and to “please respect your fellow fans space.”

Over the past few years, GCW’s nationwide schedule has allowed them the opportunity to showcase many regional stars on a national platform, introducing many fans around the world to the likes of Jake Atlas, Jungle Boy, Marko Stunt, Chris Bey, Alex Zayne, AJ Gray, and Blake Christian, as well as being one of the catalysts for the dramatic 2017 comeback story of Ring of Honor World Champion PCO.
