Report: Drew Gulak Gone From WWE

One night removed from one of the best pure wrestling matches WWE has had in a while in Drew Gulak vs. Daniel Bryan as part of the WWE Intercontinental Championship tournament, reports have come in from multiple sources that Drew Gulak is done with WWE. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported on Saturday that Gulak’s contract expired on Friday night and has chosen not to re-sign with the company. The two sides had been working on a new contract for the past few weeks but were unable to work out a deal, leaving Drew Gulak a free agent just a week before All Elite Wrestling (AEW)‘s Double or Nothing next Sunday.

Drew Gulak joined WWE in 2016 as part of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic and following the tournament signed with WWE as part of the rebooted Cruiserweight Division. He became one of the principal players on 205 Livecreating an evolving door of gimmicks from the “No-Fly Zone” to the PowerPoint Presentations, to becoming the Submission Specialist. In June of 2019, he defeated Akira Tozawa to become the WWE Cruiserweight Champion and held it for 108-days, during which time it became the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. Shortly after his loss, he was moved to SmackDown. In early 2000, Gulak formed an unlikely alliance with Daniel Bryan, working as the latter’s new coach to strengthen his mat game, resulting in one of the biggest pushes of his career in WWE.

Drew Gulak trained under Chris Hero and Mike Quackenbush at the Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW)/CHIKARA Wrestling Academy in 2004, debuting with CZW in 2005. He would go on to work with both CZW and CHIKARA until signing with WWE in 2016, capturing the CZW World Heavyweight title in 2013, as well as forming Catch Point in EVOLVE Wrestling. He was also a frequent wrestler with Beyond Wrestling, Championship Wrestling From Hollywood, Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw), Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), competing in the 2014 and 2015 Battle of Los Angeles.
