Preview: WWE NXT (5/13/20)

NXT

WWE NXT is returns tonight for another action-packed installment of its weekly episodic broadcast! Last week, NXT went all out to promote a stacked card in advance of the show.  This week, they have returned to promoting just two matches, with the rest of the card likely to be announced just before the show (if at all).  With that being said, let’s jump right in and take a look at what has been announced so far.

Finn Balor vs Cameron Grimes

Finn Balor versus Cameron Grimes is the first of two advertised matches for the evening.  Grimes comes into the match on a two-match winning streak, having won his most recent bout against Denzel Dejournette in just 22 seconds.  Of course, Finn Balor needs no introduction.  He is the Prince; a former NXT Champion and the inaugural WWE Universal Champion.  A win here for Balor would just be another day at the office.  A win for Grimes would likely be the biggest of his career so far.  Of course, Balor has been the target of a mystery attacker lately, so expect some kind of shenanigans to occur at some point.  With that being said, Balor will want to finish off the trash-talking Grimes before the attacker is dealt with.

NXT Tag Team Championship: Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher (C) vs Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner)

NXT

The currently billed main event of the evening sees Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher square off against Imperium (Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner).  With Pete Dunne currently stuck in the UK with lock down in place, Thatcher has stepped up to the plate.  Riddle and Thatcher have interesting chemistry; with Thatcher being the straight man to Riddle’s… “chilled” character.  Whereas the duo perhaps don’t possess quite the same level of chemistry as Riddle and Dunne, they are still highly entertaining.  Of course, Aichner and Barthel aren’t here for laughs.  They will be turning up to NXT with one goal in mind; defeating the Tag Team Champions.  It is perhaps too soon to take the titles away from Thatcher and Riddle, but anything is possible.  Anything is possible… like Thatcher rejoining his former Ringkampf comrades.  NXT is available tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network.
