Preview: AEW Dynamite (5/13/20)

AEW

The weeks are just flying by! Once again, it is time for the weekly AEW Dynamite preview.  We have a stacked card once again, so another glorious night of wrestling awaits.  Last week, we got the hilarious combination of “Broken” Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega as a tag team.  If you enjoyed this Broken, Elite duo, then you will be happy to know they are teaming up for another main event.  Want to know more? You are in the right place.  Let’s jump in!

Lance Archer & Jake Roberts Will Appear

AEW

Last week, Jake “The Snake” Roberts began the mind games with Cody.  Proving he is not a watered down version of his classic character, he unleashed his python onto Brandi Rhodes.  This, of course, was obviously done with the intention of getting to Cody – ahead of his TNT Championship tournament final bout against Lance Archer.  This week, Archer and Roberts are billed to appear together once more.  Be sure to expect the continuation of this feud and potentially some more ophidian shenanigans.

Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus) vs Best Friends (Trent & Chuck Taylor)

Two weeks ago, Best Friends (Trent and Chuck Taylor) overcame the odds to defeat Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian.  The match – a brutal no disqualification bout – further demonstrated the chemistry which makes them Best Friends.  This week, they square off against two very good friends (obviously they are not the “best friends”) in Jurassic Express Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus last teamed up on March 18.  They successfully defeated The Butcher and The Blade.  Can they overcome the power of friendship and beat the bestest of Best Friends? Tune in to find out.

Brodie Lee vs Christopher Daniels

Brodie Lee has won all four of his matches since debuting for AEW Dynamite a couple of months ago.  More impressively, only one of these matches lasted more than three minutes (Marko Stunt, 3:08).  Perhaps his upcoming match against a veteran of the game – Christopher Daniels – will go further.  However, Lee must keep one eye on Daniels and another on AEW Champion, Jon Moxley.  Last week, Lee and the Dark Order attacked Mox; stealing his title in the process.  One must think that a vengeful Moxley will be seeking revenge against his long-time CZW, WWE and now AEW foe.  Do not miss this.

Penelope Ford vs Kris Statlander vs Hikaru Shida vs Britt Baker

AEW

Hikaru Shida, Penelope Ford, Kris Statlander and Dr. Britt Baker DMD meet in the ring for a fatal-four-way match.  The women’s division has come under scrutiny recently, mostly for how management has handled the booking of the women’s division.  There is no denying the quality of a division laced with talent and they will be looking to prove it this week.  Dr. Britt Baker’s most recent match was a quick victory over Cassandra Golden last month.  However, Shida has defeated Baker on two occasions.  To make matters worse for Britt Baker (did you know she’s a dentist?), Kris Statlander also defeated her last year.  Shida has also defeated Ford and Statlander (as well as AEW’s inaugural Women’s Champion, Riho) in a fatal four way.  Hikaru Shida is certainly the favorite, but in a match where anybody can be pinned, it’s anyone’s guess who wins this one.

MJF’s Return Match

AEW

In the comeback story dubbed by Shawn Spears as “better than a 30 for 30 special”, Maxwell Jacob Friedman makes his long-awaited return to the ring.  What a comeback story this has been.  A career-threatening injury to his nail has been completely reversed; with his nail now cleared as “stronger than ever”.  Utterly amazing.  This comeback proves that no matter how serious the injury, there is always hope of a return.  This is an utterly inspiring story which continues this week.  Who will face the rejuvenated MJF? We will have to wait and see.

Jon Moxley Wants His Title Back

https://twitter.com/i/status/1259634323692507136

As mentioned earlier in the preview, Jon Moxley’s title has been stolen.  Brodie Lee led the assault on Moxley, before walking away with the AEW Championship.  Moxley wants his title back and will be calling Brodie Lee out to get it.  Expect a brawl.

Chris Jericho vs Suge D

AEW

“Pineapple Pete” Suge D faces off against “Le Champion” Chris Jericho.  If you have been tuning in with the volume turned up, you will have noticed the hilarity of Jericho attempting to pronounce Suge D’s name on commentary.  Now Suge D has the opportunity of a lifetime.  A childhood fan of WCW Nitro, “Pineapple Pete” feels AEW Dynamite is his chance of fulfilling his dream.  Jericho will no doubt have been one of Nitro’s stars a young Suge D will have wanted to face, now he has the chance to pull off an upset and beat him.  Pineapple Pete versus Le Champion.  Do not miss it.

Santana & Ortiz vs Matt Hardy & Kenny Omega

This week’s Dynamite main event is Santana and Ortiz versus “Broken” Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega.  Last week, Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega threw everything at Jericho and Sammy Guevara – at one point, the duo hilariously ran over Sammy Guevara in a golf cart.  After watching that, it is hard to imagine why Santana and Ortiz would want to face these two.  However, they certainly will be.  Hardy and Omega eventually lost last week’s match and will be looking for revenge this week.  The next exciting chapter in the tale of The Elite versus the Inner Circle takes place in the main event of AEW Dynamite on TNT this week!
