Who says you’re too old to wrestle? Well, apparently not IMPACT Wrestling. For weeks now, Johnny Swinger has been teasing wrestling a “young buck” named M. Jackson. On Tuesday night’s episode, it was revealed that his opponent was a wrestler named “Action” Mike Jackson, a 70-year old wrestler from Birmingham, Alabama. For long time wrestling fans, the aged veteran may look familiar – he was a long time wrestler in multiple territories for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as WCW and the AWA.

Mike Jackson got his start in the early 1970s working his home state for shows from NWA Mid-America and Southeastern Championship Wrestling. In the early 1980s, he moved on to Georgia Championship Wrestling and Championship Wrestling From Florida, where he was frequently the loser in matches against the likes of Ric Flair, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, Buzz Sawyer, and Magnum TA, or facing tag teams like The Road Warriors, The Fabulous Freebirds, Brisco Brothers, and Wild Samoans.

In 1983, he began working with Mid South Wrestling, where he faced The Midnight Express, Butch Reed, “Dr. Death” Steve Williams, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts. In 1984, he had his only stint with AWA, facing Bob Backlund and Carlos Colon. He continued with Mid South until 1985 and began working Mid Atlantic from 1984 to 1988. When Mid Atlantic’s parent company, Jim Crockett Promotions, was sold to Ted Turner and became WCW in 1988, he continued to work with WCW. His first loss on WCW television was to Eddie Gilbert. In 1989, he would get two title shots against The Road Warriors for the NWA World Tag Team Titles, but they were inevitably squashes. He finished with WCW in 1991.

He’s continued to work various independents in the US ever since, such as NWA Wrestle Birmingham in his home town. In 2009, he joined Georgia’s Peachstate Wrestling Alliance (PWA), which he continues to perform at to this day. Last year in 2019, he made his debut with House of Hardcore – he actually fought his IMPACT opponent Swinger at House of Hardcore 56 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia – and Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), appearing on their WOMBAT special last December, where he was the tag partner of former NWA great “Wildfire” Tommy Rich.
On Tuesday, Mike Jackson returned to wrestling television for the first time since June 29, 1991, when he lost in tag action to The Hardliners (Dick Murdoch & Dick Slater) on WCW Worldwide, a 29-year break.
