The final pay-per-view before WrestleMania has come and gone in the form of the Elimination Chamber. The Chamber saw two matches occur inside with one terrifyingly dominant showing and a successful title defense as well. In bigger news, a new champion was crowned, marking his first main roster title win in his career. Here’s what went down at the Elimination Chamber show.
Results: The Miz and John Morrison retain SmackDown Tag Team Championships inside the Elimination Chamber
The Miz and John Morrison had to defend their newly won SmackDown Tag Team Championships inside the Elimination Chamber. Their opponents were Heavy Machinery, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, The Usos, The New Day, and the Lucha House Party. Somehow, the champions survived but not without participating in one of the most entertaining Chamber matches of all-time. It included Lince Dorado doing a shooting star press from the top of the Chamber and Otis running through not one, but two panels of glass and landing on the outside. In the end, Miz and Morrison pinned The Usos to retain and move on to WrestleMania as the champions.
Results: Undertaker returns, aids Aleister Black in match vs. AJ Styles
Aleister Black was determined to get payback against AJ Styles and The OC after suffering defeat for the first time on Raw. Black lost to Styles on Monday following two matches against Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows then being beaten down. He was so determined to get payback that he demanded the match be No Disqualification. Gallows and Anderson kept themselves away from effecting the match too much until Black was closing in on the win. The three-on-one attack was going down until the lights went out and the Undertaker appeared. Undertaker choked out Gallows and Anderson before catching Styles by the neck and chokeslamming him onto the mat. The lights went back out and when they came back, Black hit a Black Mass for the win.
Undertaker seems to have his first match set for WrestleMania in two years as Styles and he seems destined for a duel against each other.
Results: #AndNEW – Sami Zayn wins the Intercontinental Championship
This is a time of celebration. Sami Zayn is the new Intercontinental Champion. It was a handicap match that saw Zayn team with Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro to face the now former champion, Braun Strowman. The story of the match was that Strowman has yet to get to Zayn after all these months and this continued in the match. Zayn was the final man to tag in before Nakamura and Cesaro lifted Strowman up into a suplex, allowing Zayn to hit the Helluva Kick and get the win. It was an incredible moment as Zayn held the championship above his head for the first time after 2019 that was filled with uncertainty and a lot of him not wrestling. The WrestleMania plans should be interesting now.
Results: Shayna Baszler captures her spot at WrestleMania with dominant Elimination Chamber victory
Finally, the main event of the night was something to behold. Asuka. Shayna Baszler. Natalya. Ruby Riott. Sarah Logan. Liv Morgan. All vying for a shot at Becky Lynch and her Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. It’s difficult to be any bigger than that moment. Ruby Riott and Natalya started off the match. They were followed by Sarah Logan who raised some hell. But the fourth member of the match was the one who would essentially decide it from there. Shayna Baszler tore through the competition. Baszler brutalized Logan, Riott, and Nataya in that order. So much so that she stood in the middle of the ring waiting as she made all three women tap out. Out came a scared but fierce Liv Morgan. Morgan was victimized by being tossed into the Elimination Chamber steel and then whipped into the glass of her own pod.
In front of Asuka’s pod, Baszler put Morgan to sleep. That was four eliminations and saw her waiting for an opportunity to put the finishing touches on maybe the most dominant Elimination Chamber performance of all-time. Finally, Asuka made her way out to the ring and gave the work to Baszler. Back and forth these two women went before Baszler utilized the Chamber to her advantage. In the end, she locked on the Kirafuda Clutch for the fifth and final time in the match to put Asuka to sleep and walk out with a date against Becky Lynch at WrestleMania.
What’s Next
The Road to WrestleMania has got through the final PPV ahead of the grandest show of the year and the landscape has been made. What is next between Baszler and Lynch? How will Braun Strowman respond? And how will the world title pictures shape up with less than a month to go?
Edge will return on Monday Night Raw this week to confront Randy Orton, which is sure to bring plenty of eyes to the show.
