The first episode since NXT TakeOver: Portland will have one question being asked. Why Johnny? Why? After Johnny Gargano turned his back on Tommaso Ciampa to aid his long time rival Adam Cole and allowed him to retain his NXT Championship, fans want to know why he would do such a thing. And of course, it is the in ring return of the Velveteen Dream Here is the NXT recap.
Undisputed Start
Adam Cole and The Undisputed Era kicked off NXT with Cole making it clear that he is the greatest NXT Champion of all-time. He promised that Roderick Strong would beat the Velveteen Dream later on in the night. Dream then came back by saying that tonight, it will be no problem and that Marina Shafir should be ready.
Roderick Strong followed this by saying that he will make sure Dream wished he never came back to NXT following his injury.
NXT Cruiserweight Championship: Jordan Devlin (c) vs Lio Rush
The best match any wrestling show had scheduled this week kicked off NXT with the NXT Cruiserweight Championship on the line. The champ, Jordan Devlin, would defend his title for the first time against former champion Lio Rush. Rush earned the opportunity by pinning Angel Garza in the middle of the ring last week. And it looked like Rush was going to become a two-time champion, but he would not have enough. A devastating headbutt followed by the Devlin Side made it an #AndStill kind of night in a match that any wrestling fan would enjoy.
Tommaso Ciampa Tells All… While Making An Example Of Austin Theory
Austin Theory made his way out for a match, but he wasn’t what mattered here. It was a determined Tommaso Ciampa who grabbed the microphone at ringside and got in the middle of the ring. He told the world that he feels like he should have saw the Gargano attack coming. But now he knew what was needed. Make sure there is no Johnny Gargano in NXT so that he can get Goldie back. Theory, angered by being upstaged, went to get in Ciampa’s face but was beaten down and thrown around by Ciampa instead.
Grizzled Statement
The Grizzled Young Veterans seem to be planting their flag in NXT stateside (they recently announced they had finished up on the indies) as they had a tag match against Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza. To say this match was long would be a lie. While both Wilde and Mendoza have talent, this was a time for the team of James Drake and Zack Gibson to make a statement. After winning the match, they put the threat to anyone in the back who thinks they may be better than them. The Forgotten Sons accepted for next week.
Matt Riddle And Pete Dunne Start Off Their Reign With Victory
The Broserweights are riding high after winning the NXT Tag Team Championships at TakeOver this past Sunday. Matt Riddle jokes that the Dusty Cup was not able to make it tonight because he has been suspended 30 days. This got the crowd to laugh, but it was not long before Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch made it down to the ring for the match. Before long, a swift knee to the head by Riddle to their opponents was all she wrote as win No. 1 was accomplished.
Keith Lee DEVASTATES Kona Reeves

There’s domination. Then there’s whatever Keith Lee did to Kona Reeves. The NXT North American Champion made quick work of “The Finest,” hitting him with the pounce followed up with Ground Zero for the miss it and you blink victory. After the match, Dominick Dijakovic made his way out to say that they both know he should have walked out as champion. Lee had none of it before walking off.
Bianca Belair Calls Out Charlotte Flair
During the middle of the Chelsea Green–Kayden Carter rematch, it was Bianca Belair who made it into the middle of the ring. She was as determined as ever to make it clear that she ain’t taking Charlotte Flair’s beat down on Sunday lightly. Belair told Flair that she’s going to be coming for her, whether it’s on NXT or Raw, because she’s kicking some Flair ass. No one disrespects the EST.

It’s truly wonderful to have the Velveteen Dream back in our graces. This time, in his Toy Story themed attire, the Dream was going to get retribution against Roderick Strong. Strong, however, was looking for the same after repeated weeks of Dream putting Strong’s family on his tights. This match was back and forth action from the start. Strong even told the Undisputed Era to not get involved but that went as well as Strong’s chances of winning did here. As the Era ran down, Dream with his tights of Marina Shafir on both sides, wiped them all out. He then got back in the ring but was wiped out by Strong. A Dream Valley Driver managed to be enough as he pinned Strong in the middle.
After the match, an Undisputed beat down of Velveteen was on. If I were a guessing man, the Dream will be attempting his payback by taking the final piece of gold left in the Undisputed Era’s grasp. Adam Cole’s NXT Championship.
Dakota Kai will face Tegan Nox in a Steel Cage in two weeks time, which is sure to steal the show and hopefully keep Reina Gonzalez from affecting the result of this one. Spectacular for all of us fans. This rivalry is the gift that keeps on giving.
