The NXT Recap (02/05/2020)

NXT

On RAW Rhea Ripley laid a challenge to Charlotte Flair, tonight on NXT we find out her answer. Also tonight Jordan Devlin makes an appearance and the Takeover: Portland card continues to take shape. With that said, let’s get started.

ANGEL GARZA MAKES CLAIM FOR CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

NXT

Former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Angel Garza made his first NXT appearance since losing his title. He faced the man who cost him his title, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott. Almost the entire match was wrestled even, neither man could gain a significant edge.

Scott had Garza on the ropes a few times, one notable was a brutal drive-by kick that almost finished Garza. The former champion prevailed, pushing Scott while he was on the top rope and followed up with “Wing Clipper” to put Scott away.

DOMINIK DIJAKOVIC SECURES NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Dominik Dijakovic looked to continue his march toward a North American Championship match with friendly rival Keith Lee. To get there he has to go through “The Beast of Belfast” Killian Dain. Neither big man held back, nailing each other with brutal strikes.

Dijakovic would pick up the win after hitting Dain with “Feast Your Eyes”. It was announced immediately following the match that Dijakovic had earned his match with Lee at Takeover: Portland. “Limitless” made his way to the ramp to have a friendly staredown with his new challenger. The two men shook hands before the segment ended.

JORDAN DEVLIN BESTS BREEZE IN NXT TV DEBUT

NXT

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin made his long-awaited debut after being a regular highlight in NXT UK. Tyler Breeze looked to welcome him, but Devin did a good job introducing himself by nailing Breeze with a dropkick while Breeze was making his entrance.

It was a great match that introduced Devlin to the masses and helped establish Breeze further in the cruiserweight division. “The NXT OG” made it competitive, but Devlin was able to put Breeze with the “Devlin Side Suplex” for the win.

CHARLOTTE FLAIR ARRIVES BUT DOES NOT ANSWER RHEA RIPLEY’S CHALLENGE

Bothe the face-off between Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley, as well as the appearance of Charlotte Flair, were advertised all night. In a relatively quick segment, all women showed both respect and disdain for one another. When Flair delivered the first truly disrespectful statement, Ripley and Belair made her pay.

Ripley reminded Charlotte of the brand’s saying “We are NXT” before she and Belair attacked Charlotte. The NXT duo left Flair lying, before sharing a staredown and further hyping their upcoming title match.

UNDISPUTED ERA ASSAULT STOPPED…BY VELVETEEN DREAM

Tonight’s main event was set-up after a massive brawl between The Undisputed Era, Tommaso Ciampa, and the Broswerweights. The entire match was exactly like the brawl that set it up, complete chaos. Neither team was able to keep the momentum in their favor, the faces routinely cut off the Undisputed Era and Roderick Strong made sure that the heels had their moments.

The match broke down bassoon as Ciampa and Cole were left in the ring. Just as Ciampa was setting up “The Fairytale Ending”, Strong ran in with a knee to cause a disqualification. The Era then proceeded to pick their opponents apart, leaving Riddle and Dunne laying at ringside. Before Cole could deliver “The Last Shot” to Ciampa, the lights went out and Velveteen Dream made his return to NXT. Dream cleared out the ring, before focusing on Strong and bathing in the cheers of the crowd to close the show.
