Preview: Southern Pro Wrestling NZ – Fight For Gold (2/8/20)

SPWNZ plays host to a big Fight For Gold show.  With two titles on the line and the titular fight for gold briefcase up for grabs, this is sure to be an exciting show that could have long term ramifications on the title scene.

‘Loverboy’ Lochy Hendricks vs ‘Hooligan’ Marcus Kool

Fight For Gold

In a rematch of last weekend’s clash at Melbourne City Wrestling’s (MCW) Clash Of The Titans these two men are set to square off once again.

After returning from a six-month soul searching journey Hendricks picked up the victory in what many are calling the upset of the night. This weekend Kool will be looking for redemption on home soil.

For Hendricks though, a victory here could very well put him on the path towards an SPW New Zealand Championship opportunity. Thanks to the aforementioned victory over Kool and a previous win over the current SPW New Zealand Champion, Shane Sinclair.

Cool Guy Sky vs ‘Human Hate Machine’ T-Rex

The new and improved Cool Guy Sky is set to face his toughest challenge yet when he sets foot in the ring with the monster, T-Rex.

Now that Sky has offloaded the “deadweight” of the SPW General Manager Professor Palmer and his former tag team partner Sky has set some lofty goals for 2020. Namely, he has guaranteed he will win this year’s Southern Rumble. In order to achieve these goals, Sky will need to get the year off to a positive start and what better way to so than by defeating T-Rex.

Fight For Gold Briefcase: Wana Fight vs ‘The Alphalete’ Charlie Roberts

Fight For Gold

Two of SPW’s top competitors battle it out this weekend for the SPW Fight For Gold Briefcase. The winner of this match will earn themselves a contract which entitles them to a championship match any time and anywhere they see fit.

After scoring an upset win over ‘The Hooligan’ Marcus Kool at a recent SPW Fight Nights event Wana Fight’s inner fighting spirit, which was awakened by Charlie Roberts, is certainly alive and well now.

For Wana Fight this match has a little extra meaning since Roberts was the man responsible for awakening the sleeping monster inside Wana Fight. A move which Roberts may come to regret this weekend, or is he inside the head of Wana Fight?

SPW Tag Team Championship: Power Tools (Will Power & Hammer) (C) vs CTRL (Ben Wolf & Carnage)

The SPW Tag Team Champions will defend their titles this weekend against perhaps one of the scariest forces in all of New Zealand Wrestling.

Since arriving on the scene last year CTRL has run roughshod over SPW. This weekend they receive their first shot at tag team gold.

Can the vastly experienced team of Will Power and Hammer use their wits to finally overcome the mind games and gang tactics of CTRL? Or will the underhanded CTRL capture SPW Tag Team gold?

SPW New Zealand Championship: ‘Shooter’ Shane Sinclair (c) vs Falcon Kid

Fight For Gold

After defeating T-Rex in a Southern Street Fight the hot young talent Falcon Kid challenged the SPW Champion. A challenge which was answered rather arrogantly by Sinclair, as he has allowed Falcon Kid to choose the match stipulation.

This weekend Falcon Kid has chosen for this match to be a Ladder Match!

With each man holding a victory over the other in 2019 this will be a very evenly matched contest. However, with this new match stipulation added into the mix Falcon Kid may have a slight mental advantage. As a high-flyer, the ladder match rules certainly favor Kid more than they do the ‘Shooter’ Shane Sinclair.
