Stardom’s January trip to Korakuen was a newsworthy show that saw Stardom draw over 1600 people. The Way To Major League 2020 follows on from that as Giulia’s new faction challenges for the Artist Of Stardom titles, new Oedo Tai member Bea Priestley challenges Arisa Hoshiki for the Wonder of Stardom title and in the main event Mayu Iwatani defends the World Of Stardom Championship against Sareee in a cross-promotional dream match.
Tag Team Gauntlet: Tokyo Cyber Squad (Leyla Hirsch & Death Yama-San) vs Rina & Hina vs STARS (Tam Nakano & Starlight Kid) vs SayaSaya (Saya Iida & Saya Kamitani) vs Oedo Tai (Zoey Skye & Jamie Hayter)
The “let’s get everyone on the card” spectacular. It’s likely we see the TCS duo walk away the winners from this one as they’re the strongest booked team of the bunch. It’s also possible Tam wins it for her team to continue her brewing push, or maybe Jamie wins to keep her momentum going following her two title wins.
Number One Contenders Match: Tokyo Cyber Squad (Konami, Jungle Kyona & Hana Kimura) vs Oedo Tai (Saki Kashima, Natsuko Tora & Natsu Sumire)
The winning team of this one will be the next challengers for the trios (Artist) titles. Both teams could do with a win as Oedo Tai is currently in the rebuilding stage following the retirements of Kagetsu and Hazuki. The likely winners this time though is the Tokyo Cyber Squad team. With their ongoing feud with Donna Del Mondo, who are challenging for the Artist titles, it would make sense to set up another clash between Hana’s crew and Giulia’s crew.
Artist Of Stardom Championships: Queen’s Quest (AZM, Utami Hayashishita & Momo Watanabe) (C) vs Donna Del Mondo (Syuri, Maika & Giulia)
The Queen’s Quest trio looked set to be the team that finally offered stability to the Artist titles as all three are kept somewhat strong in Stardom. With the current story they seem to be telling it looks like QQ is in a slump with Momo and Utami losing big title matches and Bea Priestley turning on them. A win for Donna Del Monde is almost guaranteed as Stardom is strapping the rocket to Giulia and a win here would potentially set up another clash with rival group Tokyo Cyber Squad.
Wonder Of Stardom Championship: Arisa Hoshiki (C) vs Bea Priestley
Arisa Hoshiki had already made nine defences of her Wonder Of Stardom title. Very few women have ever made this many defences of the white belt with only Io Shirai and Momo Watanabe bettering her. What this means is it’s likely we see her drop the title soon. Former World Of Stardom Champion and current Goddesses Of Stardom Champion Bea Priestley is currently in the spotlight after betraying Queen’s Quest and joining Oedo Tai. Stardom would love nothing more than to put the title on her while the spotlight is bright and have her end such a long title reign. Hoshiki may come away with the title and keep closing in on Momo’s record but it’s likely that we see Priestley walk away with yet another Stardom title to complete her triple crown.
World Of Stardom Championship: Mayu Iwatani (C) vs Sareee
UPDATE: Due to illness Sareee can not compete. Her replacement is Marvelous’ Takumi Iroha
A dream match in every sense of the word. Sareee has been one of the best Joshi wrestlers in the world for some time now and for the first time ever she will go one on one with Mayu Iwatani. There is a 0% chance this isn’t a Match Of The Year Contender as Mayu should work perfectly with Sareee. With Sareee on her way to America, and probably WWE, she will likely do the honours here and put over Mayu as she did with Tsukasa Fujimoto in Ice Ribbon. Get hyped because this one is going to be amazing.
Following her win in Kagetsu’s last Stardom match, Jungle Kyona made it known she wanted to face Mayu one on one. So if she comes away from this one with the title we have our next challenger waiting in the wings.
