SmackDown Highlights – John Morrison In Action (1/17/19)

SmackDown

It feels like forever since we have done one of these highlights. But here we are as it is another SmackDown in the books. With just eight days to go before the Royal Rumble, it was time for all of the members on the blue brand to try and impress. What we did know heading into it is that a certain superstar would be wrestling his first match on WWE TV in nine years and Kane would be returning for some reason we were not too sure of. Either way, here are the highlights.

Kane Aids Daniel Bryan With The Fiend

Kane kicked off SmackDown to talk about the Royal Rumble and why that is his favorite PPV of the year. He brought up the fact that he is the man to eliminate the most men in the history of the Rumble before getting cut off by Bray Wyatt. Bray reminded him of why The Fiend hasn’t forgetten about Kane one bit. As expected, the lights began to go down and The Fiend appeared as he ripped through the mat in the ring. Kane turned and said it was about time he showed up. Daniel Bryan would attack with a running knee and the Universal Champion ran back into the hole. Bryan pulled off a lock of hair before heading to the back with Kane. Bryan would challenge The Fiend to a strap match stipulation at the Rumble.

Otis Saves Mandy, But Hurts Sonya Deville

Sonya Deville asked Mandy Rose to get Otis to come to the ring after how he helped her get a win last week. She hinted that Mandy was acting nice to him to use him, but Mandy seemed to think differently. Fast forward to the match, as Otis comes out to support Sonya as she faced Alexa Bliss. But when it came down to the end, Mandy was pushed off the apron. Otis, the great guy he is, made the save and caught her. This led to Deville getting rolled up and losing the match. The Otis-Mandy love story only continues to get better.

SmackDown MVP: John Morrison

“Ain’t No Make Believe.” Slow-motion camera. Hair blowing in the wind. That only means one thing. John Morrison is officially back. He, with The Miz alongside him, was set to take on Big E in singles competition. “The Shaman of Sexy” brought back all the classics as he did everything he could to take out one-half of the SmackDown Tag Team Champions. The crowd cheered Morrison early on but his heelish tactics quickly found him on their bad side as he faced off against The New Day.

As the match came to a close, Kofi Kingston and Miz got into a bicker on the outside of the ring. Kofi would shove Miz into the steel steps as Morrison got to the top rope. He turned his head and gave the “why not” notion. He would pull off a parkour move from the top, wiping out Kingston. Big E would get into the face of The Miz, allowing Morrison to take advantage. A swift boot and knee to the head would be followed up by the Starship Pain for the win. JoMo is back and looking better than ever.

SmackDown was better than last week, that’s for sure. There was more action, like Lacey Evans getting a huge win over Bayley to land herself a match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble. There’s only one more week of WWE TV before the “Road to WrestleMania” begins.
