Preview: Shine Wrestling 63 & 64 (12/13-12/14/19)

Shine Wrestling returns to Livonia, Michigan, this time part of a two-day doubleheader with Kaiju Big Battle! The crown jewel of this Shine weekend is the tournament to crown a new Shine Nova Champion. Following Shine 62, Shotzi Blackheart and Triple Aye were successful and retained their championships. However, this was Shotzi’s last event for Shine as she moves on in her career to the WWE and NXT. So between volumes 63 and 64, a new Shine Nova Champion will be crowned. Allysin Kay also puts her Shine Championship on the line against the Shine career of Mercedes Martinez.

Shine Nova Championship Tournament, Round One Bracket A

Marti Belle vs. Avery Taylor

Moving onto tournament action, at Shine 63 we will see the opening rounds of both the A and B brackets. Up first we will take a look at the A bracket. The first match we will discuss is one half of BTY, Marti Belle taking on the rock star, Avery Taylor. Avery promises to bulldoze her way through the competition, while Marti promises it will be her and Jayme Jameson in the finals. Taylor and Belle have a few similarities, both have held titles before. Avery is current reigning ACW Women’s Champion, while Marti is a former Shine Tag Team Champion. This is also a first time encounter between these two, which should be a real treat.

La Rosa Negra vs. Notorious Nadi

Also at Shine 63, the veteran La Rosa Negra will return, her last appearance was at Shine 59. This was also where we first met Notorious Nadi. As she loves to remind you she’s not nice, she’s Nadi. Both women were on the losing end that night, and Nadi has yet to pick up a win in Shine Wrestling. La Rosa Negra was part of the inaugural tournament to crown the first Shine Nova Champion. She was eliminated in the first round by Jordynne Grace. Will the tournament prove to continue to be bad luck for the Puerto Rican rose?

Natalia Markova vs. Jenna

The Russian brawler Natalia Markova will also take part in the tournament and at Shine 63 will take on Jenna. These two have faced off before, for WWN Live family promotion ACW. Jenna was the ACW Women’s Champion at the time and defended against Markova. This was back in the summer of 2017 at ACW’s Pride 2017 event. Both of these women have gained more experience since then and should enjoy a spirited contest. Natalia is also coming off of a victory at Shine 62 over Double D Rose. Jenna may have only been in the tag team competition in Shine recently, but has been quite active as a singles star elsewhere.

Candy Cartwright vs. Double D’Rose

This one, this one is personal. Candy Cartwright and Double D’Rose were best friends and members of the Cutie Pie Club. The Cutie Pie Club is no more, and at Shine 61 Rose did the unthinkable. She betrayed Candy and left her laying. The WOAD stumbled a bit at Shine 62, losing to Natalia Markova. With the Nova Championship motivating her and revenge in her sight, Double D’Rose needs to beat Candy at Shine 63 to survive. Cartwright took part in the first tournament, where she made it to the finals before losing to Priscilla Kelly. She eventually gained the title, but had to relinquish it due to injury. With no one to help her or cheer her on, Candy finds herself in a new position. At Shine 62 she was successful with a win over Notorious Nadi. And now she would love nothing more than to destroy her former best friend and become the first two-time Shine Nova Champion.

Shine Nova Championship Tournament, Round One Bracket B

Stormie Lee vs. Thunderkitty

Moving onto Bracket B, we have the Lady Wrestler Extraordinaire Thunderkitty taking on Stormie Lee. We last saw the Mississippi native was at Shine 58 when she lost to Brandi Lauren. To this writer’s knowledge, they haven’t ever faced off before. Stormie also saw a loss in her last Shine appearance, at Shine 57 against Shotzi Blackheart. Lee also participated in the first Shine Nova Championship tournament but was eliminated in the first round by Aja Perera. Since both of them are in the same bracket, it’s not out of the question to see this rematch at Shine 64! To get there though, she’ll have to get through Thunderkitty who had an interesting well wish of luck for her.

Jayme Jameson vs. Lindsay Snow

This tournament contest is also tainted by personal rivalries. Lindsay Snow has been in the cross hairs of both Jayme Jameson and her tag partner, Marti Belle. At Shine 61, BTY got the win over the American Kaiju and her partner Jenna. However, in a one-on-one situation, Lindsay has beaten Marti before, in Livonia. She’s undefeated in this particular venue and she’s hoping her luck will continue. Time will tell if Jayme or Marti back each other up for their matches. No matter what, the American Kaiju will be waiting to get revenge at Shine 63.

Brandi Lauren vs. Randi West

This is a rematch from EVOLVE 127 in which Brandi defeated Randi West in Livonia. Brandi has been on a bit of a losing streak in Shine, having lost both matches at Shine 61 and 62 against the Pink Dream, Alex Gracia. This is also Randi’s return to Shine Wrestling; we haven’t seen her since Shine 37 in a loss to Rachael Ellering. West has kept busy though, competing in death and intergender matches, among others. You can see Randi West in promotions such as Crimson Crown Wrestling, The Resistance, Pro South Wrestling, Girl Fight and other WWN Live brands FIP and ACW. In addition to competing for WWN Live brands Shine and EVOLVE, Brandi can be seen at Platinum Pro Wrestling and as part of Breezango’s entrance as an extra on NXT.

Kimber Lee vs. Aja Perera (w/Ayla Fox)

Aja Perera of Triple Aye with Ayla Fox in tow will also participate in this tournament. She competed in the first Shine Nova Championship tournament where she was eliminated in the second round by Kiera Hogan. Since then she has been the Shine Nova Champion and is currently one half of the Shine Tag Team Champions. Ever since bringing Ayla on board, things have been nothing but golden for the superhero. Kimber Lee is a former Shine Tag Team Champion as part of the Kimber Bombs with Cherry Bomb (now known as Allie). She’s also the current SHIMMER Champion after unseating Nicole Savoy. Despite that, she’s been on a losing streak in Shine, having not seen a win since her return match at Shine 50. This match is also a first-time encounter and should be one to watch.

Shine Championship vs. Shine Career Match
Allysin Kay (c) vs. Mercedes Martinez

When it comes to the topic of the Shine Championship, these two names are always involved. Allysin Kay and Mercedes Martinez are Shine originals, having appeared on the first volume, seven years ago. Allysin defeated Mercedes to win the tournament for the Shine Championship after LuFisto had to relinquish it due to health reasons. Since then, they haven’t a single’s Shine Championship match that ended decisively for one reason or another. At Shine 61, Mercedes did beat the AK47 in a non-title contest. And as seen in the video above, she’s ready to put it all on the line. If Mercedes is unable to win the Shine Championship, she will leave Shine Wrestling. The AK47 is never one to back down from a challenge and she will most likely guarantee to whoop that ass in Livonia. One thing is for sure, this match is one you don’t want to miss.

Shine 64 will take place as another doubleheader with Kaiju Big Battle, this time in Chicago, IL. On December 14th there will be the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final round of the Shine Nova Championship tournament. The only confirmed match is:

Mercedes Martinez vs. Ivelisse

If Mercedes loses at Shine 63, this will be her final match for Shine Wrestling. If she wins this will be a Shine Championship defense against her former partner, Ivelisse. If you can’t make it out to the events, they will be streaming live on WWN Live, FITE.TV and available via ClubWWN subscriptions.
