The NXT UK Recap (12/5/19)

NXT UK

The first NXT UK of the last month of 2019 saw a former Women’s Champion make her in-ring return for the first time NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, a certain Irishman made an example out of a recent Spanish signee, the leaders of NXT UK‘s two warring factions came to an agreement on some matches for the future, and much more!

Negotiation Time

Joe Coffey and WALTER don’t come across like two guys who can easily make negotiations with one another, but thanks to the help of general manager Johnny Saint and his assistant Sid Scala, The Iron God and The Ring General agreed on some plans for the future. WALTER will defend his WWE United Kingdom Championship against Coffey at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, under two conditions. Firstly, Joe must arrange for Mark Coffey and Wolfgang to defend their NXT UK Tag Team Championships against Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner, a match that has since been set for next week. Secondly, Joe has to try and convince Ilja Dragunov to battle Alexander Wolfe in a No Disqualifications Match, something that Joe stated he was unable to make happen seeing as Dragunov isn’t a member of Gallus. However, Ilja would enter and make the match official for a later date, eventually being ambushed by the rest of Imperium as Wolfe slammed him through a table to end the episode. Three huge matches now set for later dates in NXT UK.

Short And Sweet

In her in-ring return to NXT UK, Toni Storm picked up a decisive victory over Killer Kelly, finishing off the Portuguese star with a release German suplex that saw Kelly dropped on her neck, followed up by the Storm Zero. It was a fairly short match, but that wasn’t it for Toni this evening, as she would then be ambushed by the reigning NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray. Before The Queen of Insanity could inflict too much damage, however, the former champ would be saved by Piper Niven, who has also been having issues with KLR as of late. Despite being saved by The Vixen of Violence, Toni made it clear that she didn’t want to be playing happy families with anyone. She was intent on regaining the NXT UK Women’s Championship. Tensions are running high within the NXT UK women’s division.

Merciless

Jordan Devlin vs A-Kid was bound to be a show-stealing performance from both men, but no-one could’ve seen the merciless beatdown that would’ve ensued from The Irish Ace. Devlin was clearly jealous of the recent big matches that A-Kid had been receiving as of late in his short NXT UK career thus far. Devlin had been vicious throughout the bout, however, a fire was lit inside of him when Tyler Bate made his way down to ringside. As soon as The Big Strong Boi appeared in the aisle, Jordan unleashed an even more vicious performance against the Spanish sensation, targeting A-Kid’s leg especially. Devlin unleashed a vicious series of kicks to the Spanish star’s face, before finishing him off with the Devlin Side Suplex for the three count. Clearly, The Irish Ace was out to send a message to Tyler Bate on this occasion in order to receive these opportunities.

He Is Worthy

For as long as this writer can remember, Joseph Conners has been claiming that he is worthy of being featured on a TakeOver event, but he’s yet to receive that level of opportunity. As a result, he’s taking every chance he can get to snatch an opportunity when he sees one, which is why he’s recently been targeting both Travis Banks and Ligero. This one was a complete war, with all three men getting their fair share of offence in, with Banks hitting the Kiwi Crusher, Ligero hitting the C4L, and Conners hitting the Don’t Look Down, with the pin attempt from that one being broken up a flying Ligs double foot stomp. A second Don’t Look Down to The Kiwi Buzzsaw later on in the match however would result in The Righteous Killer picking up the victory as he’s proven he is indeed worthy of appearing on a TakeOver event.

Hunting The Outliers

Riddick Moss and Dorian Mak, collectively known as The Outliers, are regulars to the NXT house show circuit over in the States, but they took a slight detour this week as they headed to Hull to face The Hunt pairing of Wild Boar and The Primate. Moss and Mak did actually put in quite a decent performance here, using their power as an advantage over their opponents. The Hunt, while small in stature, are two fierce competitors, as was shown here as they utilised a barrage of flying headbutts off the top ropes to put away The Outliers. With all the other tandems in NXT UK currently vying for Gallus’ Tag Team Championships, perhaps it’s time for Boar and Primate to insert their names into the hat.

What Else?

In addition to all this, Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster tried to convince Johnny Saint to give them a Tag Team Championships match, much like what The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) have been doing, Jinny assured us all that things between herself and Jazzy Gabert were alright (Jazzy seemed to think otherwise), and Kassius Ohno again made claims that he’s the best British wrestler alive today.
